Fabulous little museum which is run by the original family ( a few generations down). Really interesting to learn about the olive oil production and then the tasting and food was superb! Very friendly and accommodating staff. Definitely worth a visit.

Great experience and wonderful and informative staff. Learned more about olives in one hour than I learned in 50 years before. The visit ended with a lovely lunch.

Better food than any restaurant in Split and the olive oil is real and uncut. Every restaurant in Split that we tried, has tasteless olive oil, which clearly has been cut with cheaper oils, since most of the tourists don’t know better. This museum and restaurant has local cheeses and wines, the real deal. I am from Italy, and this was the best food on the trip. Plus the guided tour of the museum was given by an expert, who was able to converse in the language of olive oil. All in all a great experience, delicious meal on a magnificent island. Be sure to go to the top for a spectacular view.

Blown away by the energy/vibe, by the very informative and interesting museum display and the story as well as by the delicious tapas/meze-style food we had here.

The family team who greeted us at Muzej Uja were simply unbelievable from the phone call I made to inquire about their opening hours all the way through to our handshakes and hugs as we were departing after a beautiful couple of hours at their place.

It’s a beautiful museum sooo lovingly restored and dedicated to the generations of olive oil producers in this beautiful island. The display is complete, very interesting and informative and the short tour that Stefan gave us, in perfect German, was inspired and personal. I told him after the tour that I can’t believe how much energy and passion has has shown during the tour that must have been his thousandth, after a very busy summer.

the food was simple and amazing, absolutely wonderful and we didn’t feel like leaving.

I could not be more happy and proud for this amazing family and will definitely come back again and again in the future!

I’m wishing them all the best and I wish you, dear reader of this review, to experience Muzej Uja and enjoy it at lehalf as much as I have.

We adored this museum visit, mostly because of the guides who have designed an interactive and personalised experience, and who are friendly and knowledgeable and a lot of fun. I don’t know how they manage to keep this up over and over again! The museum experience and food with wine was also really reasonably price.

Beautiful setting with amazing history and a fabulous thing to do. We learnt so much about olive oil production, were given amazing tasters and the owner Kruno was both charming and passionate about his family history. We would certainly recommend it and will be back. I promise to bring cider from Somerset next time Kruno!

We were delighted to learn that on the island of Brac, there was an olive oil museum in Skrip, the oldest settlement on the island, which opened in 2013. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but my expectations were far exceeded by a fascinating tour of one of the finest traditional Dalmatian attractions.

The museum of oil presents the traditional process of olive oil production on the island Brac. In this museum one can see the olive mill, olive press, spindle for tightening press screw, bags, fireplace for heating the water and all traditional tools for transport, production and storage of olive oil.

Our guide was a relative of the original owner and he was passionate about his family’s role in the preservation of traditional methods that was the catalyst for the revival of the mill’s fortunes. It reinvented itself as an olive oil museum by showcasing the old traditional production methods with a seemingly endless supply of authentic and original artefacts.

Our guide first offered us a liqueur made from olive oil and then he recounted his family’s involvement in the production of olive oil as well as the process.

Founded in 1864, the Krstulovć family mill serviced the local community using very traditional methods for almost a century, before the opening of a more sophisticated and quicker mill opened nearby in 1963, bringing to an end the tradition of milling in this family house in Skrip.

By the early 20th century Kruno and Mandica Krstulović have upgraded the mill by purchasing the new ''Thomas Holt'' olive press from Trieste. The family continued to process the olive oil until the 1963 when the mill stopped working due to introduction of new technologies (hydraulic press).

In 2013 Kruno Cukrov (grandson of Kruno Krstulović) and his family took the challenge of restoration the old mill and by July 2013 the mill become Museum of olive oil in Skrip and opened for public as a historical and cultural monument of history of making olive oil on the island Brac.

As an aside, we were told that it took over a year to just restore the roof. Our guide explained that there were three problems with the authentic restoration of the roof. Firstly, it was almost impossible to find craftsmen in the modern era who could do the job. When they did, most of them were too old to do the job, but finally a local craftsmen from a younger generation was found and put to work. And finally, the roof is not fully waterproof, as it was also not back them.

The Cukrov family continues the family tradition of producing olive oil as a part of their family business, this time on modern machines, for which it was awarded bronze medal for extra virgin olive oil.

During the tour, guests are invited to try out the machinery, great fun for the adults and I imagine youngsters would be thrilled as well.

We toured the museum with our two teenagers. The guide was very knowledgeable and provided an interesting tour around the olive oil mill. You even had a go at some of the old workings.
After the tour you can do various tastings (varying prices) upstairs in the restaurant. You have an option on buying some olive oil or jams at the end of the tour.
Definitely worth finding and investigating. 🫒 🇭🇷❤️
