well maintained , amazing greenery , deep flowing river and curves in the road were thrilling to travel and saw so many monkeys blocking roads expecting travellers for some feed .
Entering cauvery wild life sanctuary leads to a place called muthathi , where we can seek the blessings of lord anjaneya and enjoy the flowing river in the place

I drove from Bangalore via Hosur and Dhenkonkottai. The drive is great and weather is cool. Its very likely to find elephants inside. The hairpin bend between Panchapally dam to Bettamugilalam is mindblowing, narrow and unexpected. So be prepared.

Having been to other wildlife sanctuaries in southern India, like B.R.Hills, Cauvery sanctuary near Malemadeshwara hills looked pale. Perhaps due to scorching summer sun, but not many protected animals were spotted. The only respite being the cool Cauvery flowing through. Pick your right time...

Malai (Male) Mahadeshwara Betta is a pilgrimage center in Kollegala taluk of Chamarajanagara district in state of Karnataka, India. Mahadeshwara temple is an ancient and very popular pilgrim centre and one of the most powerful Shiva shrines in India. Millions of devotees throng around these hills for getting divine bliss of Lord Shiva.
It is at 3000’ above sea level in the extent of about 155 acres plus other lands at Talabetta, Haleyuru and Indiganatha villages. It is surrounded by dense forest and attracts pilgrims as well as those who are fond of enjoying the beautiful nature.
Male Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary is found in Kollegala. This is one more wildlife sanctuary in Karnataka in addition to already existing 22 wildlife sanctuaries. Karnataka government has declared that a part of Kollegala Range Forest as Malai Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary, covering 1,224 sqkm of the Range forest and 906.18 sqkm (90,618.75 hectares) is sanctuary, with effect from 15.12.2012. This is in accordance with the provisions of the Wildlife Conservation Act, 1972. This has provided momentum to the conservation of wildlife in the area inspite of many obstacles.
This sanctuary borders both Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary and Tiger Reserve Forest in the district. Interestingly the famous Bandipur National Park and Yedeyarahalli—Doddasampige Elephant Corridors are also located in this district.

Tigers were spotted in this area by the Forest officials and residents. This region is noted as high density of wild elephants. Be sure you get confronted or encircled by tigers and elephants in this new wildlife sanctuary, as it are considered a boon for tiger and elephant conservation.

Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over in about 100kms around and along with river Cauvery which traverses along number of low hills, rocky knobs and out crops all along its length. I have seen several waterfalls in its path towards its journey to sea. They are Mekedatu, Sangama, Muthathi and Hogenakal falls that are most often visited tourist dots especially by Bangaloreans. The newly carved Male Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary in Kollegala is part of the already existing sanctuaries.
I have passed along the river and dry deciduous forests and some patches of scrub forest looking at Terminalina, Arjuna and other trees that have dominated the vegetation.
The leopard, wild pig, sambar, spotted deer, barking deer, four-horned antelope, and other animals are wonderful assets here. I am told that this sanctuary is the last refuge for endangered grizzled giant squirrel in Karnataka. It is difficult to cover the names of all birds, animals etc that I saw in this short space permitted for review. But it is interesting and entertaining to spend time in this sanctuary.
Wildlife includes all plants, fungi, and other organisms either grown or living in an area without being introduced by humans that are traditionally referred to non-domesticated animal species.
A sanctuary is a sacred or sanctified place like a shrine. Sanctuary is used as a safe haven. A sanctuary is the holiest of holy places. There may be human sanctuary, a safe place for humans, like political sanctuary and non-human sanctuary meant for animals or plants sanctuary. It is a place offering protection, safety, food and shelter to displaced persons, refugees, and homeless persons. Normally Animal sanctuary, Plant sanctuary etc are tourists’ attraction dots.
Kollegala is connected by NH 209 (Bengaluru-Dindukal via Coimbatore, Kollegala) and NH 215 (Kollegala to Calicut, via T.Narasipura, Mysuru). Nearest rail heads are Chamarajanagar 30km and Mysuru 60km. nearest airport is Bangalore 150km and Coimbatore 170km away from Kollegala.
From Bengaluru to Kollegala one can go by two routs namely Bengaluru->Maddur->Malavalli->Kollegala on NH 275, and Bengaluru->Kanakapura->Malavalli->Kollegala on NH 209. Food and accommodation are available.

there have been multiple instances of mugging, molestation and killing in Mandya, within 2 weeks of our getting mugged. It seems to be a pretty dangerous place with a lot of criminal activity.
One needs to take care and remain alert
