Beautiful church at the top of Sheet Street and next to the castle. Wonderfully maintained by a group of volunteers.

If you have some time to spend then it is worth spending it in Holy Trinity Church. The present-day church dates from the 1300s and stands on the site of an earlier, probably wooden, church which was built in the 12th century. The church was damaged in 1645 during the Civil War by stray canon fire aimed at nearby Skipton Castle and its tower has been struck by lightning; not once but twice. The second strike caused a fire which damaged the roof and destroyed the organ. Looking like any other parish church from the outside, inside there some beautiful stained glass windows and other interesting artifacts. There is a font as old as the church itself with an elaborately carved Jacobean cover. There is an arched memorial doorway dating from 1847. The war memorial stained glass window is a fitting tribute to those who were killed in the First World War; their names are contained on two bronze plaques. The name of those who fell in the Second World War are on three separate plaques. There is a magnificent oak choir screen which, it is thought, dates from 1533 and may, at one time, have been in nearby Bolton Abbey. There are the Royal Arms of "Mad" King Gerge III painted by a local craftsman in 1798. They are situated above a medieval sedilia. In the sanctuary there is the family vault of the Clifford family, the owners of Skipton Castle. Standing out is the ornate white chest tomb of George Clifford, the Third Earlof Cumberland. It was his daughter, Lady Anne Clifford, who, at her own expense, repaired the considerable damage suffered by the church during the Civil War.

We are regular visitors to Skipton but for some reason we had never gone inside. A beautiful church with wonderful windows and very pleasant gardens to take a break from the bustling town.

I popped into the church on a recent visit to Skipton and was very impressed with the the church overall but especially the stained glass windows. I found it so relaxing to sit and look at them for a while. I had a very pleasant conversation with a lady doing the flowers which were lovely arrangements

Positioned in pride of place on the high street, next door to the Castle, this church has medieval roots and is a Grade 1 Listed building. One of the highlights has to be the impressive Rood Screen from 1533, complete with its carved angels. There is some excellent stained glass. The Church has along history; it was damaged by Canon Fire during the English Civil War and was extended by a grant from the infamous Richard 111. Well worth a visit if you are in town, not only to view the architecture and the memorials but of course to have some quiet and peaceful reflection!.

Very lucky to have the opportunity to visit inside the church on our brief stay. Made to feel very welcome. Beautiful stained glass windows. There was a beautiful wooden archway inscribed with interesting facts down through the ages. Erected about a thousand years ago. Amazing
