We walked to Iford Manor along the river from our hotel in Bradford on Avon on a dull, grey Bank Holiday Monday. The gardens are absolutely beautiful – a very warm welcome on entry, really nice café and restaurant on site and the most gorgeous views from the terraced gardens. The wild garlic was in flower and smelt amazing – have never seen so much wild garlic anywhere before!
Sadly, the very mature wisteria had frost damage from the April frosts so was not in flower, but the planting was still very colourful throughout the garden and there is a surprise around every corner.
A lovely visit and highly recommended.

Beautiful beautiful house and gardens, delightful lady at the gate, head gardener, cake and tea, but sadly lunch was disappoinintg. We had to wait 90 mins before we were served our meal. By that time we'd filled up on bread that they gave us to compensate. I know everyone is struggling with lack of staff etc. but it has put us off returning for a meal.

Beautiful garden in immaculate order. River below and good walks by house too. New restaurant just opened with excellent chef - our food was delicious- recommend the crab aranchini - generous portions. Helpful staff.

We visited the gardens as part of a birthday treat and I was wasn’t disappointed. The gardens were beautiful even in late September. It was a pleasure to walk round and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. The lady in the ticket office was lovely and very helpful.
We had lunch in the cafe and it was first class. Highly recommend

Visited today 16th September. A hidden gem of a garden, loved the meandering paths through the gardens. So much to see too. Lovely friendly staff who were all very helpful. Lovely cafe and staff and lots of cake and pastries despite being short staffed (Covid induced) and a reduced menu.
Would return again.
NB
Whilst waiting to pay owner came out to talk to a couple one of whom was in a wheelchair. After a short conversation the owner said to bring the car in (parking is a little way down the road )and let him park in the Manor .

Beautiful gardens. Knowledgable and helpful staff. Clean and tidy cafe with good tea. Well worth a visit. Wear sensible shoes as quite steep in places.

Ok it was a lovely sunny day, but still the gardens are stunning. Terraced and set with stone ornamentation, some original Italianate C15 marbles and figurines, the colours in the gardens will depend on the season of your visit.
It is as accessible as an historic hillside garden can be, something that all open gardens can suffer from. The gems must include the recently restored cloisters which are quite simply beautiful. There are little hidden extras that are still coming to light as overgrown areas are gently being taken back. A rill here and spring head there. It greatly adds to the feeling of discovery as you wander the smaller pathways and steps.
The cafe offers a small range of good quality food, Covid is currently making staff supply difficult here, as everywhere else. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable if you have questions just ask.
The road access is tight but that is not the venues fault, not is it in their gift to change. The car parking is generous once there.it
Give it a try. Remain open minded. Relax and enjoy the space. You cannot be disappointed.

Stunning garden and amazing restored cloisters. A wonderful afternoon with the added bonus of tea and cake at the new cafe, which in itself is a beautifully converted building that blends in with the Manor House.
The gardens are terraced and full of mature trees, ponds and Italian relics set on a hillside overlooking the green valley. I will be returning!

What a hidden treasure!! We were an educational group of 20 and received such a warm welcome. Wandering around the gardens was idyllic and the view from the cloisters super. We will definitely return to view the gardens and enjoy the delicious refreshments. Thank you.

Hi, are dogs allowed in the gardens please?

They are not allowed in the actual garden, which is not huge. But once you have seen it, you can go for a lovely long walk beside the river which runs below the house. It is is a very pretty and well marked route. There is a good carpark with some shade beside the garden and the river.

It is a long walk 2 3/4 miles take approx one hour ( I am saying long for me as I suffer with bronchitis but I could manage to walk in the gardens) Hope you enjoy it.

Would families be welcome? Would two noisy boys be tolerated 😂?

As the gardens are all outside spaces it should be fine. It really depends on the age of your children, if they are easily bored this may not be the ideal place, as it is very tranquil and peaceful, although there were children there the day I visited and they seemed to enjoy it

What is the wheelchair access like?
Will C
Bradford-on-Avon, UK26 bidrag
Please see our website, (it won't let me post links, sorry) where you can download our accessibility map in addition to finding some guidelines. Click on Peto Garden, then there's an Accessibility link on the left side.
Being a historic terraced garden we are pleased to have been able to provide access to around 60% of the garden area using paths accessible to most robust wheelchairs. We have a side entrance to the garden where you can park the car, to avoid the climb up the hill.
It can be useful to talk it through in advance, so please don't hesitate to contact us on 01225 863146.
