We visited Haddon Hall on a rainy morning in December and it was a great way to spend our time. The place was all decorated for Christmas and there was a festive atmosphere all over the place. The gardens were unfortunately closed, we could still get a glimpse from a small section that was open. Note to wear warm clothes if you are visiting during the weekend as most rooms are a bit chilly.

Very disappointed with our Christmas visit to Haddon Hall this year: we usually go every year and love the whole atmosphere but it was not at all up to the standard of previous visits. The advertising had said roaring fires and carols but there was only one very pathetic fire which you couldn’t get near because of a a huge fire guard, and a few very quiet carols playing in one room on a stereo. In previous years they had carol singers in the courtyard, pop up cafes (including a marquee one year) and both of these things would have been possible even with the problems due to Covid. The rest of the Hall was freezing cold with no heating at all and the decorations were tacky and cheap and mostly plastic. There were none of the fabulous flower/foliage/door wreath decorations which had been so stunning. Plus the entry price had been hugely increased. The whole visit was a real let-down after previously magical trips. We won’t be bothering again which is a shame as it had been a Christmas tradition with us. I can’t help thinking that Covid is being used as an excuse by many places to put up prices and reduce what they’re offering.

This was a first visit to Haddon Hall for myself and my (grown up) daughter. We loved the buildings and the history of the Hall, explained by one of the informative room guides. The Christmas decorations were amazing and made the visit truly special for us. However, we plan to go back in the summer and also visit the gardens.

A lot of history, and the interior of the house has some interesting things to peruse, and the decor has had little done to it since the 1600s. There isn't much of it though, and £23 each plus £3.50 parking is very pricey, especially in winter when the garden area is a bit sludgy. Definitely a summer place to visit, although the price could still come down a tenner to be honest.

Visited Haddon Hall today and although the building is impressive we were extremely disappointed. The website advertises roaring fires; there was one fire lit and every other room was freezing cold. The rooms were poorly lit generally and there was no Christmas atmosphere. There were no lights in the garden at all. We were there for 45 minutes and visited all rooms. For only £3 per person less than Chatsworth, plus £3.50 parking it cannot be compared and was not value for money. Will not return.

Couldn't agree more with the previous reviews, while the architecture of the building was impressive the Christmas decorations wern't, only one fire lit in the main hall so it was freezing cold in every other room & with no background carols playing there was no Cristmas atmosphere!
We tried to get a cup of tea in the restaurant to warm up but it was full so we were turned away at the door (why not provide take a way drinks?)
The price paid at £23 each plus £3.50 parking was a rip off, we left after 30min & called at Peak Village shopping for refreshments & spent our money there.
Very dissapointed with Haddon Hall, will not return, rather pay the extra next time at Chatsworth

We visited today. The Christmas decorations were very good but at £23 each plus £3.50 car park I do not think it was good value for money because:

1) the gardens were closed off due to scaffolding and the lady on the entrance advised us not to go into the grounds that were accessible as it was slippery. This meant that the full charge was being levied for access only to the house!

And 2) the house is brimming with history but it was poorly communicated. No overview of the history of the place or the family. Only 1 folder in each room - which was difficult to read in the low light. No labels on any of the pictures or artefacts at all to help the customer.

Having visited the Hall on several previous Christmases a comparison is inescapable. The joy of an entertainment was missing, covid being blamed, and yet for this diminished offering the prices had been raised. Although it is a matter of taste, by comparison, this year the decorations were decidedly tacky - the two plastic figures flanking the fireplace in the main hall were just jarringly horrible. The advertising boasted 'roaring fires', the plural was an exaggeration and the fire itself, unimpressive this time. Scaffolding was being erected at the time - just in time to spoil things for the short Christmas opening, why not wait 3 weeks? The building itself of course has some fascinating and exquisite features but the 'Christmas' experience this year did not live up to the hype or justify the price hike.

Attended Artisan Market today at 1300hrs with my wife, which I had been looking forward to as it is my birthday. After queuing on the A6 to park, stopped at the car park gate by a member of staff and told "It's closed as it's too dangerous under foot!", then told to go to Bakewell and come back in half an hour!!! (which I was not prepared to do!)
I appreciate that it had snowed slightly, which I knew as I live in the Peak District and had around 6 inches at my house, and the power was out. But, come on, it's winter and it does snow, especially in the Peak District, and snow by it's nature is slippery. I was not happy at been sent away after travelling to the market for a special occasion.
Very disappointed at Haddon Hall, and they lost my business today. Felt sorry for the artisans as well as I had cash to spend !!!!!
Doubt I will go again due to this farce !!!!!!

We visited as four adults and had the best time! There were loads of artisan stores to enjoy and the hall was decorated beautifully for Xmas. It was busy - very busy (!) but it didn't detract from our enjoyment. I bought several gifts for Xmas, a Christmas cake, some sweet goodies to be devoured there and then, washed down with a warming cup of mulled wine. Needless to say, I was singing Christmas carols as we walked back to the car. I love Haddon Hall at the best of times. It has wonderful medieval and Tudor architecture but this was even more fun. I'd be back next year in a heartbeat!
