A good day out, but don't expect thrills galore
sep. 2021
I have to admit that the only time I visit here is to attend the special events such as the war weekend, steampunk days etc. These events are on the whole superb and very well supported! There has been the odd duff event such as the Edwardian weekend which used to be good, but sadly has been poorly supported of recent.

The tramway village itself is quite large containing displays, a museum, tram sheds and exhibitions. There's also a period printing shop, sweet shop, ice cream parlour and a pub. (The Red Lion which used to be located from Stoke-on-Trent). I think that the sweet shop and ice cream parlour may only be open during busy periods but I stand to be corrected. There is also a cafe, which I haven't used as it has always been packed to the rafters and impossible to get served, (on event days). The pub is much easier to get served and sell baps and sandwichs along with a limited selection of ales, ciders and soft drinks.

Would I go on a non event day? Probably not, as I'm not that into trams - so I just go for the events. If your interested in trams and transport of yesteryear, then you'll enjoy it. Plenty of free parking, event days do get busy though and during the war weekends - public are required to park in an adjacent field. The only real downside is the entrance fee. My last visit was for the Steampunk weekend and it cost me £19 to enter. Luckily I spent most of the day there and enjoyed it, but for a non event day, (assuming the fee is the same), it can be pretty steep for a family to enter.

A return to my childhood
okt. 2021
A real nostalgia blast - I'm old enough to remember using trams as daily transport in my childhood. This was my first visit, though I'd been planning to come here for a while.
The museum was fairly quiet (well it was midweek in early October) so we were able to wander around and have several rides on the trams without feeling that others were impinging on our space. We were lucky that it was a sunny day and quite mild, but there is plenty to see under cover if the weather is not so good. You could easily spend a full day here.
The only caveat is that the catering offering is a bit restricted (possibly a combination of post-Covid and limited demand at this point in the season), but it's fine so long as you think of it as a light lunch rather than a main meal, and my wife was happy with the gluten-free options.

great day out

nice little village with cobbled streets. we took our dog so the woodland walk was a must. it was fantastic, with lots of wood carvings which were brilliant. a good look into the past of trams, with a good selection to view. cafe there only has light snacks, so if you want a full lunch you wont get one here. good thing as well is that you can re-use your entry tickets FREE any other tinme you come. well worth a visit.

Time warp in the hills.

Loved every moment whilst in this very special place that recaptures & preserves the transport of the past. Staff are very respectful & helpful. The setting for this museum could not be better. We had sandwiches from Rita’s take away & very good they were too. My photographs will speak a thousand words. Will revisit in the not too distant future. Thank you to all staff. A memorable day.

You don't have to be a tram buff to enjoy this place!
sep. 2021
We visited off-peak but plenty was going on, with several trams running and food available (not expensive either). The weather was reasonable, but even if it had rained the tram sheds were open to explore, and the vehicles are beautifully restored and labelled informatively - no junk as one often sees on heritage railways and transport museums (apart from one unrestored tram,to show you what's involved). I can't wait to go back on my ticket (return visit allowed within 12 months).

Excellent day out

It is similar to other places but well worth a visit nonetheless. The sheer quantity of rolling stock is staggering. Take the tram to the end of the line and walk back down via the woodland walk with all its sculptures. The tram sheds are amazing.

Similar to other reconstructions

This is similar to Beamish, Black Country Museum and other museums around the country. As long as the weather is not bad, it is a lovely experience although there is little for youngsters to do, apart from ride on the trams. When we visited the volunteers were taking part in a theft mystery and they were very believable. The volunteers we met were all lovely people. There is a lovely walk in the woods, from which there are lovely views across areas on the Peak District. The Red Lion and the sweet shop were lovely - make sure you try the sweet cloudy cider and any traditional sweet that brings back memories of your childhood, or your Grandparent's childhood!. The tearoom was the only disappointment - no atmosphere. Extend the visit by having lunch at the Red Lion (only sandwiches, etc, but very good). Strangely, hot food is available at the tearooms, but it is only pasty, chips, sausage rolls, and the like. All volunteers throughout the site were keen to be asked questions and to be helpful.

Excellent day out

We visited Tramway village intending only to spend a couple of hours there. We ended up spending the whole day there. There were three wonderfully restored trams to ride on and more on display in the tram sheds
