A nice little hike if you are on the road
sep. 2018
A nice little shrine, but easy to miss. I wasn't really into shrines but we were visiting the pirate queens castle house up the road so we stopped. A short hike with good views and a cute shrine. Have a friend that is into this kind of stuff so we drew a small amount of holy water for her in a water bottle, but alas I drank most of it the next morning before realizing what it was. I feel fine, hope the oz or so that was left works for her.

You hear the water trickling , wind blowing, birds over head......amazing place of solitude and thinking.......take a dash of water and rub your neck and forehead.....say a prayer if you believe. I prayed for a sick relative.....he improved greatly the next day in the hospital. Either way worth the walk on a finished path.....be carful of drain sections over streams.....at least two section like this. Go further down road to the abbey on the river after seeing the well.

A must see. Found just before you get to Rosserk Friary. About an 8 minute walk from the car park, mostly on the flat. This quiet valley exudes history and there is a very spiritual feeling about it.

If you have time, walk down to the well and you will be visiting a little bit of Irishlife, whch is quickly disappearing (thank god says my husband). I found this area to be extremely moving and fascinating , in equal measure.

Fairy tree
nov. 2017 • Venner
I agree with all the other reviews of Marys Well but the standout thing about it is the fairy tree ( hawthorn) that grows out of the roof. Our guide a friend who lives locally says it was a place of worship long before Christianity reached the area. It is certainly a very spiritual place.

Product of Fable, Faith or Imaginative Curiosity: in any interpretation can be worth a go!
okt. 2017 • Par
There seems to be some active ongoing discussion about the extent to which Mary's Well serves more as a testament to noteworthy and impressive events or a wistful bit of Shangrila or Brigadoon. The surrounding literature tends to cover all the popular base possibilities without offering a singularly emphatic interpretation of the site.

For those so disposed, all the ingredients come together in the pristine and unspoiled atmosphere of a hallowed ground, one inviting an intense spiritual engagement. For others, it's yet another generously worthwhile example of Ireland's uncomplicated yet compelling natural bounty.

I'll not share my interpretation as to why a walk toward Saint Mary's Well is worth the effort. Best to leave motivation for engaging the bucolic path to whoever finds him or herself advancing toward a hopefully rewarding conclusion.

I was so surprised at this beautiful site. It is so peaceful and feels really spiritual. I enjoyed the walk down to it, it felt like I was leaving all the hustle and bustle behind me.

Oasis of peace and calm
des. 2016 • Alene
I visited here after Rosserk Friary. It is beside the friary. It is about a 10-15 minute walk off the road and there is car parking at the top of the walkway.
The walk itself is in great condition and ordinary footwear is fine.
When you reach the area of the holy well and the 1798 chapel the calm and peace is wonderful and it is clear that it is a place of prayer.
There is a tiny chapel over the holy well which was built in 1798 according to the plaque.

I sat for some time and all you hear is sounds of nature - the wind in the trees, the stream and the birds.

I cannot recommend a visit highly enough.

Eine Wallfahrt wert
mai 2016 • Par
Wenn man Rosserk Friary besucht, sollte man Saint Mary's Well unbedingt besuchen.
