We took the little detour down a very bumpy road to visit the well. It's a nice detour but we left feeling that with a little more care it could be a lovely spot for everyone to visit.

Finding places like this is exactly what makes us keep coming back to Ireland. The story of the well, and it's namesake is incredible and the trip there brings you through an untouched and unspoiled corner of Ireland. We were there on an absolutely BRUTAL day in November, the waves were so big we could hear them hit the rocks and the spray was making it all the way to us! It was cold, the road terrible, the weather Irish, and it was perfect! What an adventure in honor of and adventurer, we dipped our St. Brendan patches into the well to be sown on our travel packs. Take a chance, get out of your comfort zone, and go to places just like this!

I’ve been reading a book by Sharon Blackie about the ancient wells of Ireland. They were originally guarded by women snd considered sacred before the time of Christianity. I don’t know if this is one of them but it is certainly worth the visit. It did feel, as others here have said, sacred and holy and really worth the bumpy muddy roads. I wish I knew more about the crosses nearby. I’m glad I was with my adventurous driver. I’m quite certain my husband would not have ventured down that road.

Worth a trip down the bumpy road to visit St Brendan’s Well and read about the history of the site. There are picturesque views from this point and also plenty of walks.

Don't know if it is for real. We made it to the well, in the middle of very boggy land. The crosses are amazing. We did wonder why St. Brendan would consecrate this place and, in fact, how many people would have come out here. But we are not archaeologists.

The road is terrible, but it's not all that bad. Clearly, some number of people make it out there for mass, as there is seating for them, in three tiers, outside.

I dragged my adult family (2 carloads full) to visit this well on a rainy day. It is secluded, and you need to drive carefully down the roads, but it was worth the time and effort if you have an interest in holy/sacred wells. It is in the middle of nowhere but that adds to the enchantment. If it is raining, and you don’t mind a little mud, don’t let that deter you from going. It definitely added to the ambiance. While I was the main reason for everyone going to the well, it was a topic of conversation for days afterwards. Happy we went.

This love, secluded location, and beautiful high crosses surrounding this holy well, make it one of our favorites.

This well is really difficult to get to, but with the right footwear you'll soon see what all the fuss is about . It is more interesting for Catholics I think because they will have been taught all about the saints, but this does have historical as well as religious interest.
