The whole evening from start to finish was enjoyable from the food to the entertainment.Staff very authentic and knowledgeable.

To be honest when I booked the dinner for the eight adults in our group, I really wasn't sure what to expect? We had done the tour of Bunratty Castle and the Folk Park a few years back, but I was intrigued by this dinner. Turns out it was a blast! The premise is that you are a guest of Bunratty Castle for dinner. The actors/singers are also your servers each assigned a table. And Jim, the main character was a riot. He made the show. You sit at long benches, there is no assigned seating, so if you are prone to being uncomfortable getting close and personal with your "neighbor" then this isn't for you. The food was plentiful with platters of meat (chicken/beef) and vegetables (served buffet style) and loads of table wine. Your only utensil is a "dagger" (steak knife), but I opted for the vegetarian offering (just as good) and I had a fork. You get a glass of mead (drinking age) when you arrive in the main hall. The entertainment was amazing, and they get the crowd to participate as well; one guest in particular was named the scoundrel and thrown in the dungeon. His only recourse was to sing a song. His choice? Sweet Caroline. He had the entire room joining in. So great! If you book on their website be aware that it's non-refundable (about 60 euros), but if you use Viator it's more money, but I saw that it was refundable with restrictions. We sat next to a couple from Australia on holiday and made some new friends. Completely worth the experience. I wouldn't recommend it for smaller children. Just too much sitting and much more suited for the adults.

Even on a rainy night, the banquet experience was great! We had previously toured the castle and folk part, which are interesting, and on this trip we booked the medieval banquet. It begins with a musical reception and a cup of mead. Throughout the evening the musicians and servers were really first rate. Yes, this is put on for the tourists, but we found the food to be quite good and the entertainment to be excellent. There is plenty of food and wine. We left in a great mood. There are several B&Bs in the immediate neighborhood so the combination made for a great first night in Ireland after driving from the Dublin airport.

Wow! So cool! We loved this. The food wasn't that good, but the singers and musicians were great. Really a once in a lifetime type of event. All the performers were SO kind. It was such a fun night. Tip: Be one of the last ones in. They bring you into a big hall for drinks, and then they take you into the banquet hall. The people in the back got to go in first and got the best seats.

Great entertainment and great food. This was our 2nd visit in 8 years and this was much better than the 1st in 2015. I highly recommend!

Great fun and a perfect way to end our Irish vacation! Good, hot, and plentiful food and wine served by the singers who took special interest in the patrons. Beautiful music-some songs brought tears to your eyes. The true testament of the troupe’s character was when the appointed Earl of Thomund had an unexpected health episode during the dinner. The Butler quickly and professionally addressed the situation with help from other cast members and health professionals in the audience. The Earl revived to everyone's hearty applause and the Lady made a remarkable closing speech. Everything was just wonderful.

A fantastic evening. We had a great night here, it was good to get a little bit of history of the times but I have to say the singing, music and the humour of the team there was excellent. I can also tick having mead off the list (they have a non alcoholic option as well). I thought the banquet meal was very good and I really enjoyed all the dishes. One thing I would note is that you do need to go up and down some narrow staircases in the castle but there are handrails which helps a lot.

I was a bit unsure of what we were getting ourselves into with this one, but I was pleasantly surprised and left grinning ear to ear. As we first walked into a great hall, we were served some delicious honey mead and were welcomed by Sir Chris, the “Butler.” Then, we were lead downstairs for dinner. We sat side by side with other couples in some rather tight quarters, but everyone was friendly, and the setup was appropriate for family style serving. The four “removes”, or courses, we were offered were quite tasty. Appropriately, in the first three removes, our only implement was a “dagger” (a steak knife), which made eating unexpectedly entertaining. During the meal, we were treated to the sometimes rehearsed and sometimes random musings of Sir Chris and the other Bunratty staff, who were both minstrels and servers. After our meals and many laughs, we listened to twenty minutes of Irish singing, accompanied by a harp and violin. What a lovely group of talented entertainers! Back upstairs, we were served coffee and tea with a surprise…a musician in traditional dress playing the bagpipes outside. We had a great time and would gladly partake of another banquet.

What an amazing night. So much fun. Excellent food. Music was magical in its presentation. Lady Alice who served our table eas soo much fun. She made the night.

Long walk to and from car park is poorly illuminated
Waited in the pouring rain and wind for near 20 minutes to enter the castle. Seemed very unorganized when the guest could have been welcomed more quickly or directed to a ground floor room for warmth and to stay dry.
Hard debris from castle fell and hit three folks in our group during our wait to enter.

Hey everyone, thanks for answering this question for me. BTW, the food was very good, family style (platters brought to the table) and plenty of it. The wine, well, pretty much like what you get at an open bar at a wedding. It's about the atmosphere and that was awesome. The staff/cast were stupendous. Fun Friendly and talented. Have an amazing time!!!!

We were booked by our Globus tour. But all the seats were filled so I would book as soon as possible. There were many large groups on the night we attended.

Are tables and/or seats assigned, and in what order? If we need to be near the end of a table in order to get out more easily, can that be arranged? And if stairs are an issue, may we go straight to the dining hall and skip the reception?

Yes, we skipped the reception and went to the great hall. They seated us 1st at the end of a table. The singers wait tables-- like a dinner theater. It was all in great fun and the food was better than we expected.

For a meal at 15:30, should guests arrive early? By what time? We are trying to see if we can fit this in because it looks like so much fun! We were hopeful for a later evening seating, but not are available when we are visiting.

I'd recommend 10-15 mins early to browse the Visitor Center gift shop or the park area - the Visitor Center - then inside to the left in the cafe area - is where you'll check in anyway. Check your tickets - it'll tell you on it. They'll probably let the tour bus groups go in first, then everyone else. No worries on this as you have a short little program in the castle before they seat everyone downstairs in the dining hall. Dining is banquet/family-style seating at large long tables with benches and they assign everyone a table in the dining hall so no need to rush too much - enjoy the castle, tapestries, and pieces throughout. I'd recommend to try to sit facing the center of the room as that is where the entertainment will be most of the dinner.

We stayed at an airBNB that night, right around the corner from the castle...a five minute walk. If you’re coming from somewhere else, there was plenty of parking in the lot. We went in June, and had a terrific, fun time at the banquet. We went to “Durty Nellie’s” tavern right next door afterward. The next morning, before we moved on to our next location, we went shopping at the outlet stores across the street from the castle. I believe it opens at 10am. Have fun!

We are looking to attend the banquet May 16th. The only time available on viator is 8:45pm. We’d love to explore the village and castle prior. Do we have to get tickets for any of that. How long should we allott to do so? Does the Castle portion close at a certain time? Don’t want to sit in the car to wait for banquet to start.

It does cost to walk the grounds. It is well worth it. There is an old fashion village, fairy garden and lots of animals. You should plan for a few hours. There is a lovely tea room right in the center.
