Good chance to see some bird life in an interesting habitat. Lots of serious twitchers there but that didn’t detract . We just enjoyed the sublime experience there

Never been here before - what a treat! Completely off the beaten track, we spent 4 hours covering all the paths and hides, 24 species ticked off, staff very friendly and toilets were spotless. New "megahides" are just amazing with massive windows and 360 degree panoramas. We will definitely be back, only 10 minutes off M56.

This was my first visit, and time was limited, the visitor centre was manned by a young lady who very helpful, giving a quick low down on the site, we spent a short while in the visitor centre viewing area, which over looks a good expanse of water, which was full of birds, we then followed the main route around the reserve, which was very good walking, there are a good mixture of hides and viewing areas, although mainly a wetland site, there’s a decent amounts of wooded area too, and a number of ponds, which unfortunately we didn’t have time to walk around, we enjoyed a very nice few hours, seeing a good number of birds, I will definitely be back next spring.

If you've got a car then you're fine. If you rely on public transport or cycle it's difficult to get to. They could make it easier if there was an entrance from the path that goes by the estuary below Burton Point. They don't want to do that though because the car owners are the ones they want there. So much for making things accessible without needing a car.

What annoys me is that they have control over the top of Burton Point. If you want to go there you have to pay them your six pounds then walk quite a distance from their car park. Then you have to walk all the way back to the car park.

Unless you're prepared to do what I did and jump their barbed wire fence. I did that and found a safe way to get down Burton Point to the path by the estuary. It could be dangerous because of cliffs. The only alternative was missing my bus. I walked past the Harp Inn to Homecrofts to pick up the 22 bus.

This is soo beautiful a place and so well equipped with paths and boardwalks that make it very easy to get lost in a waterworld of marshes and greenery and bird and animal life. It is without a doubt the loveliest and most natural RSPB reserve I have been to in 68 years so far tho I have not been to them all in the UK. The boardwalks are extensive. Several warm wooden seats in the sunshine give that needed sit down as well as well placed picnic benches but not too many. You can sit on one and watch trains from the reserve too or walk up into the field and look down on the cycleway and the reserve in general which is on the River Dee estuary. It is very pretty and includes woodland. The track in is mud and in the woodland, and has large ups and downs so you have to drive your car very slowly and very carefully to get in and use passing places as it is also the exit. With care its only 5 to 7 minutes. There are clean toilets and snacks and drinks available and loads of information. There are also some very fine viewing walls of wood with perspex windows to save going into hides tho there are a couple of hides. Its lovely and you can hear all the birds giving their spring recitals at the moment. I believe there are other reserves and other gardens and attractions nearby so plenty to see tho I think you need a whole day just here. In my 2 hours I had spare, I have not seen it all. The staff are truly happy and the loveliest helpful ppl. I was there to see someone very poorly and 2 hours here really brightened up my day.

This was my first time here and although we couldn't stay for that long it was very enjoyable. The staff/ volunteers were friendly, informed and helpful. The wetlands looks very established and is a lovely place to go to see wildlife and sea birds.

The weather was grey however it didn't hinder the visit and there was good access everywhere. Nice parking area and a quiet location overall.
I would recommend a visit!

First visit today. Didn't really know what it would be like. I thought the reserve looked a bit small from the online stuff. Very different story on the visit. Super helpful staff to welcome you and give excellent advice. Hides were all top notch. Spotted redshank too!
