We were advised to go here with our 4and 8 year old kids. Turns out under 6 can not go into the cave. Fortunately my partner and daughter managed to join a group going in so no wait needed, me and my boy killed time outside until the group came out, probably about 25 minutes. We all then went to see the lizards, as previously mentioned, too much jostling for a look through the glass to see a hand full of lizards. Tour guide spoke only Spanish which was fine as my partner speaks it and there was a handout given with sone basic info. For me to see the cave I would have had to wait for another group to form but decided not to as my boy was particularly bored.

So what do you get for your money?
Entrance to a hot room, where there are a few of the island's larger lizards. I saw 3, each about a foot long, curled up, some distance away behind the glass screens.
You cannot linger, if you really want to drool over them, as you are part of a tour group - so there is some jostling for space close to the screens. But you wouldn't want to - it is hot & stifling in the rooms.
The tours are at fixed times, which is an issue for people turning up a few minutes after one starts, or needing to get away. Plus of course you have to listen to the tour guide give her speech, even if you don't understand Spanish.
There are also about a dozen structures & single room buildings, fitted out as how peasants lived over the past couple of hundred years. You don't get to go past the doorway, and they generally did not have windows, so pretty dim.
The entire tour is delivered in Spanish, although there is an information sheet in various languages covering some history of the island.
What could be done better? Any lizard display I've ever seen is better - your local pet shop is better. There is no need for the tour guide around the houses, simple plaques with info on what you are actually looking at would be more use.

The site, including the descent into a volcanic tunnel, the discovery of the ancient pueblo and the vivarium allowing the perpetuation of the El Hierro lizard is very interesting.
The visit (paid) and the guidance are mediocre.
The guide does not speak any language other than Spanish and "ignores" tourists of other languages. She speaks quickly.
The vivarium would be interesting and there should be respectful silence there (it's displayed large), but everyone moves, talks and laughs, guiding her first.
For those who have paid for the visit and who do not know Spanish, there is no support in the old "pueblo" although it is very interesting (equipment a bit "mess")
The little paper in German is deplorable and no longer makes sense!
Too bad they don't provide QR code terminals.

We loved the visit with local guide Nelly. I explain everything in great detail and answer all our questions. Essential visit to better understand the history of the island.

Very complete attraction with volcanic tube, Guinea houses and lizard. The very professional and expert guide throughout the park. It is worth waiting for the guided tour because of everything you learn to further appreciate what they are doing for the island of El Hierro and what this place represents for the locals.

We want to congratulate, with a drum roll, the Herreña Guide NELLY, The trip to El Hierro was worth it for the experience we had with her, how to transmit the culture, how you went to the moments in history, which she transmitted with words with the mind, a majestic experience, from the hand of someone who admires the history of iron. Congratulations on the facilities, we encourage you to continue investing in history, in the end the important thing in life is to transmit culture

Ir con playeras o zapatillas deportivas. Hay un cono volcánico que es visitable. Las guías muy buenas. La visita es preciosa. El museo muy bonito ( casas) y el lagartario muy interesante, con lagartos del Hierro. Nada caro

My main reason for visiting was to see the breeding plan for the Giant Lizard, which had previously thought to be extinct and I was blown away with the imformation given both visually and more importantly our guide for the tour ,Yolanda, who was so well informed about both the plan and the Islands cultural history too, seeing the lizards up close was fantastic and then a guided tour of the preserved Island worker's village through the ages with a visit into a lava tube just made the visit so interesting . We spent 2 and a half hours here and was well woth the entrance fee.

I hadn't realised that in addition to the abandoned/preserved village there was a giant lizard enclosure and a volcanic tube as well, the later two require a guide. We arrived at 10am which I think is when it opened and we purchased a ticket for 9.50E each. The first tour was at 11am so we spent an hour looking around the village. At 11am a guide took a large group of us into the volcanic tube, this was quite interesting but the guide spoke in Spanish so we didn't get the full benefit of the tour (they do give you a small leaflet on the volcano but it has very limited information) and then finally you are taken to the giant lizard enclosure where you can view the lizards though the glass windows but I was expecting to see quite large lizards and although they call them "Giants" they were actually quite small. Again the tour is in Spanish but there are a few displays written in English but I think to gain the real experience of the tour you need to understand Spanish.
