The visitor centre offered respite from the driving wind and rain, the warden was most welcoming and showed me where to find the self-service hot drinks, toilet and information displays and reserve map. The nature trails were well signposted and the viewing screens and hide provided shelter from the weather and gave views of a vast number of ducks, including wigeon, teal and pintails; fieldfares and redwings kept flying up from the hedges and I was incredibly privileged to see a distant hen harrier hunting over the wetlands.
The sun came out as I crossed the raised peat bog on the boardwalk, with dramatic views of autumn trees and the distant Cumbrian and Scottish hills under a wild sky. Marvellous place and a precious wildlife habitat!

RSPB membership was a retirement gift. Little did I think it would take me to so many interesting places! Visited here from the Lakes. Ample parking and a toilet but sadly the visitor centre is closed. New hides and view points and a compact accessible walk. Lunch in a layby watching the waders out on the Firth. Loved it!

Lovely place off the beaten path. Our children enjoyed the supplied nets fishing for bugs in the pond and exploring the grounds. The boardwalks and views are very nice.

Well worth taking time out to visit if in the area. On the Solway Firth, the impressive wetlands seem to attract a vast array of different birds. Even as someone who is not normally interested in such things, it was still a very enjoyable visit.

Since we only had 7 miles left of Hadrian's wall path on the last day, we decided to wander around a bit.

Well worth an hour or two of walking without a heavy pack.

Alla fine del percorso lungo il Vallo di Adriano è piacevole trascorrere un pò di tempo in questa riserva naturale dove è possibile osservare tante specie di uccelli diversi e sentire il profumo che arriva dal mare.

First time visit. What a lovely reserve for a walk. Easy to park. Off the beaten track. Staff welcoming great and a superb variation in habitats: Wood, meadow, farmland, bog, heath, hedgerow - it is a SUPERB walk. However and this is the weird bit: for such an array of offerings and given the conditions were ideal (as was time of day) we managed to see the square root of nothing in terms of birds. It just did not add up. We will try again (say) October’ish when the geese arrive. Hope it turns out better next time.

We visited on a chilly day in May. The hides are well placed next to a variety of habitats and one was great for disabled access. Everything is well signposted and well presented and the visitor's centre interesting. Well worth a morning.

We took in the Nature reserve whilst on a circular loop walk. The sign around the site explained the flora and fauna and what wildlife you could see. We didn’t see anything apart from a couple of ducks, but this didn’t distract from the quiet beauty of the place.

The road round to the reserve is prone to flooding. Be careful!! We visited on a chilly weekend in January, just after a major influx of water. Plenty of birds in evidence on the marsh and even more so as we travelled onto Kirkbride. Saw a small egret on the marsh and large flocks of Great Egrets further along. The reserve is manned sometimes and there is info about the whole area as well as the varying bird population. Access to a toilet and a hot drinks machine too!. Lots of feeding stations, so plenty of smaller birds in evidence too. 2 walks are offered. as well as different things to do with the kids. Would go again
