This is a quaint little castle keep and moat nestled right in the centre of Nunney village. Well preserved exterior walls and very picturesque. Free entry and can be incorporated into a walk around the village with ease. Dogs are welcome but make sure they do not disturb the ducks in the moat. Well worth a visit

There's not much here to savour, of course.
But it is definitely worth a brief detour for a 10 minute, or so, trot around the ruinations and to gaze at what remains in dilapidation, in order to see and feel history as it happened long ago.
It fits in snugly and enhances with its history the wonderous surrounds of Nunney.

What an amazing castle and very unexpected. Nunney is a very pretty and very tiny village with a huge castle!
It’s a ruin where you can take a wander around. It’s probably half an hour at the most but just lovely to view (especially on a beautiful sunny day).
Really worth a visit if you’re nearby. We stayed in Frome and it’s about 2.5 miles away. We walked but it took us an hour or so each way.
Don’t forget the beautiful brook running close by filled with ducks and dragonflies. So pretty.

This was a fun and easy stop on the way from our AirB&B to Glastonbury. The car park is about 5 minutes’ walk uphill, but you can drop off anyone with limited mobility right next to the castle and go park the car. The path and castle interior are fairly accessible for a cane or walking sticks. There are no stairs and no way to access anything in the castle other than the ground level.
My kids’ favorite part of the visit was seeing the families of ducks. A number of mother ducks and their ducklings were resting by the moat water, and they did not mind being photographed from fairly close.
The castle is great for pictures. Note that it’s an open air ruin with no shelter, so plan accordingly if it’s raining.

I came from Indianapolis Indiana to see the famous castle from our family history. Took the bus from Bath to Frome and then over to Nunney. I was enthralled by the beauty of the town and thought it was perhaps the most beautiful village I had ever experienced. The townspeople were very receptive and I enjoyed the pub, the church, and the laid-back atmosphere. I even had a couple of invites to relocate there when I "retire". Meeting Kim and Ron Warwick of the Nunney History Society was an absolute privilege. Their place backs up to the stately castle.
The castle is in great shape to be ruins and is cared for nicely. I was very proud to tell people my name and how it would have been in our heritage several centuries ago.

Quiet walk in and around this old castle. Not so big but impressively thick walls. Good description of the history of this structure as well as the layout at the time.

Free to visit this castle which is so scenic can get some great pictures of it by the moat. There is free parking close by and some nice footpaths to walk along too for a stroll. We saw some super cute ducklings in the moat too

A largely derelict castle in this pleasant village, it actually appears largely intact from certain angles, and with the moat around the outside, it certainly looks the part. Internally though, there’s not much left other than the four walls, and is actually a lot smaller than it looks from the outside. Worth popping in if passing, but don’t make a special trip.
