I was doing the 2 bridges walk and chanced upon this towards the end of my walk in South Perth. You can go inside the mill and read some history. It is free to enter and worth spending half an hour here.

The Old Mill is a South Perth landmark. The Swan River Colony was founded in 1829, and the Mill began operation in 1835. The Mill was essential, as it ground the grain on which the Colony depended. It operated until 1859. These days, the restored attraction is much loved by the people of Perth. The Old Mill sits on the Península in the Swan River, near the Narrows Bridge.OLO

Interesting part of Perth history in the south part of Perth. It’s not somewhere you will spend a great deal of time as the mill itself is not very well presented but as it’s free to enter it is still worth an hour of your time and just of the Esplanade. There are boards with information about the mill and it’s past.

We noted that the Old Mill opened from 1 - 4 pm on the Saturday and took the opportunity to revisit when Covid lockdowns did not impede. Two lovely and helpful lady volunteers present with a wealth of information on the history of the mill. Great interpretative signage. A little piece of pioneering history preserved in South Perth.

The Old Mill Theatre is a wonderful theatre to visit. The production was a farce called Touch and Go. Very comical and entertaining, the timing excellent. The building itself is very interesting and had many roles before it was used as a Theatre.

It's wonderful to view a structure that had been retained and restored in a city that has demolished much of it's early heritage. Built by William Shenton in 1835, it has somehow survived the developer's wrecking ball. Resumed by the State in 1929, it seems that there was not the will to maintain the buildings until in 1957, H L Brisbane and Wunderlich leased the site, restored the buildings, created a folk museum and used the remainder as a display area for their brick and tile products. It was vested in the National Trust in 1992 and nowadays is the responsibility of the City of South Perth. Closed on the Tuesday when we visited but this didn't diminish our pleasure in viewing a structure that dates to early European settlement on the Swan.

The Swan River Colony was founded in 1829. The mill in South Perth was established in 1835, and functioned until 1859, milling prodigious quantities of grain throughout its lifetime. Without the mill, the struggling infant colony would not have survived. Perth, now a thriving city of 2 million, can take pride in this link to the pioneering settlement of Western Australia. After two years' of restoration, the Old Mill has reopened. The oldest surviving connection to Perth's early days is a source of pride to the people of South Perth. The restored mill and the miller's cottage are are on the tip of the South Perth peninsula. They can be accessed by car; the bus stops outside the door.

The Old Mill is one of the oldest remaining structures in South Perth, from the settling of the colony in 1829. Without the Mill, the settlers would have been unable to mill their grain and they would have starved. South Perth people will have followed the saga of the Old Mill, from the time of its near demolition in the 1960s to its restoration today. It is near the Swan River. Getting to the Mill is easy -- you can drive, or the bus stops virtually at the gate South Perth people take pride in this relic of Perth's early days. "Mill Point Road" is one of South Perth's main thoroughfares.

The Old Mill is on the South Perth Peninsula. It dates from the earleist days of the Swan River Colony. Due to the corona virus, the Old Mill has been shut, but it is now reopening. You can open the doors to the cottage and the Mill, but you can't go in. It's easy to get to the Old Mill by bus. South Perth people regard. the Old Mill as part of their heritage.

One of the most underpromoted tourist destinations in Perth is the Old Mill, which is one of the oldest colonial structures in Perth. The old mill was used to grind flour for the colonialists and once fronts a bay that has since been reclaimed for the expanding Perth population. The shed is filled with olden furniture from the colonial era and has been restored. Entry is by donation, of which the amount is up to you to give.
