Decided to try this museum when up staying in nearby Durham.
The Lady on the desk was so helpful, she let us use the staff lift as the main one was broken (we have some walking issues) and told us of a display of vase making and glass blowing starting. We loved the demonstration and the two men were so in tune and experienced in what they were doing so was a good paced demonstration. Staff helped us back up the lift and were very friendly and kind. We viewed the exhibits and had a lovely drink in the cafe where the staff were very nice too.
I am sorry to hear they are looking to close this museum in 2 years time and hope there will be a rethink of doing this.
Again wonderful helpful knowledgeable staff from start to finish.

Some lovely things to buy in the shop and to view in the display cabinets. The glass blowing demonstration was excellent and very informative. What a talent these people have. Lots of free events for children advertised which is great. The cafe was nice and the food very good.

We went with a little apprehension having read negative reviews. I'm glad to report we has no problem parking or finding the Glass Centre. We were welcomed by a helpful member of staff. The exhibits were beautiful and included informative films. The cafe was perfectly adequate. The 'hot glass' display was magic.

We were not aware that this is a UK national site for glass design and only came across this when researching locations to visit in Northumberland. What a wonderful hidden gem. The glass blowing workshop led by Ray and Jason (hope I have the name right) was exceptional. The skill and knowledge was amazing. We heard that the centre was potentially going to close. What a real shame that yet again we are going to lose another of our national heritage. The museum was informative and provided in-depth information about the history of glass development over the ages. We also visited the exhibition of paintings by Laura Lancaster. The flow of her painting were beautiful. Access is very good if you need additional support. There is plenty of parking, but you do have to pay because I understand the car park belongs to the University. Definitely worth a visit if you are interested in the design, history and process to create glass sculptures. We did succumb to purchasing a beautiful glass vase created by Ray. Thank you for such a lovely afternoon.

Not the greatest of welcomes - in fact there was no welcome. Difficult to find. Most places as it described on the floor layout on the walls wasn't in operation. Good demonstration given and enjoyed a nice meal in the cafe. Lady in shop was helpful but cash is king so card payments only was frustrating.

Hi Sarah
Thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent visit. The building is only partially open at the moment while we make repairs to storm damage to the front of the building. We have worked hard to still provide the majority of our offer, to include moving the shop and cafe to the upper floor. Our main gallery may have been going through exhibition changeover at the time of your visit. The new exhibition 'Peoples Art' is now up and running and we are gaining great feedback.
We do apologise that you did not receive the normal welcome on arrival we try to give all our visitors. We are pleased you enjoyed the live glassblowing demonstration and lunch in the cafe.
We do hope you will visit us again to see some great exhibitions.
Kind regards.

Spent the afternoon at the glass centre. We have been before and is was sad that they had suffered storm damage and the cafe and shop had shrunk as a result.
We were particularly looking forward to the glass blowing demo and we weren’t disappointed. To turn a lump of molten glass into an item of beauty is a real talent but if you add being watched by 20 or so people and your colleague giving a running commentary makes it even more spectacular. As part of the centre is closed to get to the glass blowing you have to follow a route that takes you through where the students are working - lovely to watch.
You can also purchase one of the pieces of hand blown glass - lots of other lovely things to buy in the shop.
We also stopped at the cafe for a drink and a cake

I visited the centre on a cold miserable day and my mood wasn't improved by my visit
Some points of note;
1)A relatively expensive car park-£2.40 for 2 hours on an unkempt parking area
2) A very confusing entrance ( initially arrows led you down to the waterfront where everything was closed) a stranger guided me to the entrance near the car park.
3) No interest was shown by the staff on my arrival - even on advice about what to see
4) Some interesting historical facts about glass making in the area & some interesting pieces displayed
5) A nice, but slightly messy shop
6) An uninspiring cafe(£9.00 foa Latte & a Tuna Melt Ciabatta!)
I appreciate there were problems caused by storm damage in October, but I'm not tempted to return

Dear Roger
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback from your recent visit. We are sorry you didn't have the full positive experience we try to offer.
I'm not sure what happened with the parking charge as the price is 60p per hour or £3 for a full day.
Due to storm damage causing the front of the building to be closed, we have worked hard to make changes so that we can continue to offer visitors a packed programme of exhibitions, events, activities and shopping.
The arrows leading towards the riverside are directing visitors to Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art. The main National Glass Centre entrance is via the usual entrance from the carpark.
We are sorry you felt you did not receive a warm welcome on arrival. This is unusual as we do try to give all customers the best welcome. Rest assured your comments will be taken on board.
Due to the temporary location of the cafe being a distance away from the kitchen the team are more challenged in the way of providing the usual substantial menu selection, however have managed to provide a variety of popular menu choices.
We are pleased you enjoyed the glass making and exhibitions and do hope you will visit us again.
Kind regards.

We simply mentioned to Cafe staff that there was milk spilt on a chair and two unclean tables as we looked for a clean table to sit at in the Cafe ,when this large male staff member shouted over " You don't have to check every table and chair ,you know we do have cleaners " ..I walked over and said " excuse me ,I was telling you about the dirty chair and tables to help you " ..He then said " I am calling security to have you removed as I don't like your attitude" and proceeded to March off saying he'd call security . I felt physically sick as security came and said we were banned from the Cafe but could go see the exhibits. !!! Absolutely unbelievable unfair treatment and just for pointing out milk on a chair and two dirty tables which this male Cafe member didn't obviously like ..We sadly will not be back...

If we get there for 10
O'clock in school holidays will there still be parking left?
Skrevet 28. mars 2016
Hi Hilary, Yes that should be fine, we have an overflow carpark to the side of the centre which we open if our main carpark is full.
Skrevet 29. mars 2016
HI, we are around a 15 minute walk from St Peter's Metro Station. The easiest way to find us is to leave the station and cross the main road (North Bridge Street) and walk along Dame Dorothy Street towards the coast. You will come to a roundabout, where you will see flags for National Glass Centre on lamposts turn right here - this is Liberty Way - continue down this street for 2 minutes and you will find National Glass Centre. Directions and a map can be found on our website.
