Very few heritage sites has such clear images of statues sculpted 1000 years ago. A must visit to see craftsmanship, scientific layout and design, how pillars were erected using interlocking system. For a site which was submerged under water for over 800 years, this is a must visit fke tourist & young childeren who wants to understand what architecture is all about.

This place is very close to Modera. The place is under development. The gardens and other tourist attractions are being constructed how, it will be even beautiful, after the work is completed.
The well was constructed for the queen to take bath, but the kings of the Solanki Dynasty. Since the well was berried under the sand for many years, the statues are well preserved in the middle floors.
The lowermost floors are closed for visitors, as the recent earth quake in Gujarat has damaged the walls, and it is unsafe for the tourists.
This place has a ticket for entry. Parking place is available.
Recommend to carry food as this place has no eatery nearby.
Paten city is nearby, and can serve good food.
Patan is famous for the Patola saris, and the pattern of Patola is even seen on the sculptures on the step well.
You can buy these saris from the shops in Patan.

The carvings were simply amazing. The problem is that I have little interest in archeological sites. However, my friends really enjoyed it.

Built by an 11th century CE queen named Rani Udayamati (the consort of Bhimdeva I, of the Solanki dynasty), this huge stepwell or vav is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The interesting thing here is that over many centuries, the stepwell had got completely silted up and buried, to the extent that it was nearly invisible. It was only in 1958 that the Archaeological Survey of India carried out excavations and dug it out, removed debris, and straightened fallen pillars and so on.
The Rani ki Vav sits in a large landscaped park, the stepwell surrounded by an unsightly-looking railing. The railing extends down on either side of the inside of the stepwell too, to act as a guardrail to prevent visitors touching the profuse stone carvings lining the walls. Many rows of steps lead down, in a crisscross fashion, to the depths of the vav, with ornate carved pillars, ceilings, and walls all along the way. During heavy monsoons, the water can fill all the way up to the lower steps here, but when we visited in January, there was no sign of the water. Beyond a certain level, visitors aren't allowed further, but we were told that around the back (off-limits to the public) is a deep circular well, the walls of which are lined with more exquisite carvings.
Entrance fees are Rs 40 per Indian, Rs 600 per foreigner. Even if you go right down to the lowest accessible level, it takes only about half an hour to see this, unless you’re interested in closely viewing each of the carvings.

Yesterday we visited this well considered the most beautiful in Gujarat and probably in all of India. It was accidentally discovered sixty years ago by a farmer who was digging stones on his plot of land. A long and steep staircase allows you to go down to the lower floors. It deserves an in-depth visit with particular attention paid to the statues in relief, among which, in addition to the deities of the Hindu pantheon, there are also little angels and devils (represented with lion faces). At the bottom of the well the water is no longer there; they decided to eliminate it because it attracted too many swarms of mosquitoes. Foreigners pay an entrance fee of six hundred rupees, money well spent to see this wonderful monument.

First to be specific that thumbnail photo for Rani ki Vav in Tripadvisor is not of Rani ki Vav but it is of Modhera Suntemple.......Rani ki Vav is an ancient stepwell structure which was lost during flood in 13th Century and that was for good because it couldnt be destroyed by mughal emperor ..It was discovered by Archeological society...Amazing place..The guide was good. One security person takes amazing pictures in your mobile...The sculptures show contemporary rituals and devidevta as well as Avtars of Vishnu, Even designs of Patola Saree too

A must visit architectural marvel ,Rani Ki Vav ,is reminiscent of our rich old heritage.Amazed to hear the history of this wonder and the skillfull, well planned architecture of olden times, sans any modern technology, still way ahead in planning. The dove tail interlocking ,meticulously crafted sculptures with minute details of life style of the royal period, all are definitely worth a visit.
The seven steps of the step well is full of rich historical significance and heritage. The well spread garden and lawns around with langurs, peacocks and birds are fascinating and serene.Recommended to hire services of an authorised guide to learn about the rich history.Entrance fee of Rs.40/- with snacks available outside. The security inside the monument are very courteous and helpful, offering to click pictures at vantage points.

How much time required to visit this place in the morning?
Skrevet 1. oktober 2019
Hi. Can anyone please tell me how to get a Tour Guide for Rani ki Vav?
Skrevet 26. september 2019
One possibly does not need any tour guide. The place has a lot of information on it. There ls a large park, and the main structure is there at one end. The step-well has information about it. Some prior study can help as well: there is a lot of material on the Internet. This is one unique structure...enjoy the trip!
Cheers,

Well, hello everyone! Firstly, Happy New Year :)
I am planning a visit to Ahmedabad, this month or the next. I need help regarding the following -
- Which buses go from Ahmedabad to Patan, what is their frequency and when is the first and last bus?
- Are there any locals who can give some insight into the Rani-ki-Vav? Any guide, friend or anyone?
