My wife and I visited this place on our way home after a holiday in Bendigo. There are information boards about the history of the Memorial Cross, which we enjoyed reading.

The original cross was burnt down by the Ash Wednesday bushfires in 1983. The new cross was completed in 1995.

Apart from the Cross, there is also Major MItchell Lookout to see the panoramic views of Mount Macedon and a Historic Survey Cairn near the exit of the Reserve, along the driveway.

We also saw a Wombat that was happily feeding on grass.

Flicking through photo albums as a child, photographs of the Mount Macedon Cross featured from time to time... my father considered this to be a great outing, so he did take us here a few times as children. (This was the limit of his imagination)

A year ago a friend visited the cross and told me about it... I recall smiling and saying I had been there a few times, but not for a great many years. It was time to return. It took me a year to get here. I did try to visit in July, but the area was closed due to damage from a storm.

Driving into the area, it's reasonably well signposted... when you arrive, there is oodles of established carpark area. The area is really beautiful to drive into. It is well set up for picnickers or groups that want to spend time enjoying it's landscape. The cross is going to take you less than ten minutes walk to get to, but there is also Major Mitchell lookout along the way to stop at. The pathway to the cross is very good, which means that mobility for those in wheelchairs or using frames is assured. There are a few steps at the cross, but to enjoy it, you really do not need to walk up them. There are beautiful gardens and trees along the way.

The day I visited I learned that the cross that I had visited as a child had been replaced ( I REALLY was overdue for a visit) , there are information boards on your way into the area explaining why and how it was replaced. It was foggy, but that just added a different perspective... no less beautiful. If you are in the area, you should add this to your list of things to see. :)

Easy walk on a paved path- cross is large and meaningful. This cross replaced the one destroyed in the Ash Wednesday fires. Gardens and walking tracks are well maintained. There's also a memorial board for a plane crash that happened in 1948.

There is no lookout as the trees have grown tall!! Same at the Major Mitchell lookout.

Lots of parking, entry is free. Cafe and toilets available. Lots of picnic areas around and along the road in. The drive in from town is beautiful in Autumn, so colourful!

What a surprise, didn't think the cross would be so big!
A short easy walk that's surrounded by lovely gardens and a lookout, this venue has plenty of parking and toilets.
It's a beautiful reminder for our WWI heroes, I can only imagine how spectacular it would be to be there during Anzac Day.

This is a beautiful memorial to fallen soldiers and easily accessible by road. The Cross itself was damaged by bushfire but has been restored and it's a glorious place to be both as a lookout and if the clouds are low, to literally stand among the clouds and watch them roll by at such an altitude. Everything is wheelchair accessible and very well maintained. A lovely place to visit.

Cross was underwhelming in size in the end, but fun to walk to. Great view. Walking trails are well maintained.

Easy walking trails, you can choose from short to long walks depending on how much time you have, and nice view from the memorial cross and lookout that you’ll pass by on the way to the cross! There is a café there and the scones were freshly made and very yummy!

Fascinated that it was 10 degrees cooler up here than down on the flat. Walked up to the cross on a somewhat drizzly day. Enjoyed reading the interpretive panels explaining the history of the memorial before walking up to the cross itself. There was a lovely peaceful but slightly sombre feeling - it felt very similar to visiting the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne. Surrounded by some lovely gardens. Certainly well worth a visit.

We haven’t visited this place for decades but not even the 6.5oC cold weather (not sure what it was with the chill factor) could dampen our spirits. Looking out over the countryside was so incredibly majestic and beautiful and seeing this great monument (memorial cross) that honoured those who fought in the 1st World War was something worth stopping to reflect on.

We will be back.

Short walk from the car park up a lovely tree and flower lined path to the memorial. Unfortunately we didn’t stay long as it was rather chilly, but definitely worth visiting!!!
