Not so worth and one can skip it and save cost and travel time.
Better to spend more time in munnar or kochi rather than this.

We visited the fall in the month of December. Many of the falls in India are monsoon falls. So we were wondering if we are actually going to see any water. But we were pleasantly surprised with the flow. There were steps to go up and even a wheelchair path. The path down seemed a little tricky to navigate for older people so we just saw it from the top. Worth visiting for sure if in the area

Athirapally Waterfalls offers a breathtaking view from both the top and bottom, showcasing its sheer power and beauty. Surrounded by lush greenery, it stands as a natural wonder captivating the hearts of nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts alike. Riding through the forest to reach the falls is a great way to experience nature.

Visitors need to pay a vehicle fee and park their cars alongside the road as there may not be designated parking. And cash is the only accepted mode of payment. Mobile network connectivity might be unreliable in the area. Carry a water bottle with you and return it at the entry point for a refund of 10 rupees. You'll also need to purchase an entry ticket to access the falls. The entry fee is 50 rupees per person.

The top viewpoint of the falls is just a 10-15 minute walk from the falls entry. However, going down to the bottom of the falls involves a 30-minute trek through muddy terrain. It's important to note that individuals with mobility issues or breathing difficulties should avoid the trek down to the waterfall.
The water flow at the falls can vary depending on the time of year. After February, the flow may be less. To see a higher water flow, the best time to visit is from June to December. Bathing in the falls is not allowed, and it can be risky due to changing water conditions. Although post-February visits are allowed to enter in the water due to lower water flow. Visiting will be be restricted during certain times, especially during the monsoon season or when the dam is opened. The area can get crowded during long weekends.

HAd been planning a visit for a while.
Stayed in Trichur and bused it up to Chalakudi and onward to Athi Falls.
Well connected from Chalakudi, freq buses. FAre is Rs 40.
Sufficent hotels for stay and food near falls
Falls entry is Rs 50 and retain ticket so that same can be used at Vazhachal as well.
Athi has two visiting spots, top of fall is reachable in 100-200 m walk. Down of falls reachable by some 200-300 uneven steps and rocks. This part could be difficult for older folks. And if it is raining.
All together a must visit.
Then second spot is Vazhachal falls, this is more flat area. 5-6 Km from Athi. Use same ticket as Athi.
On the way is Charpa falls (roadside)
Auto takes 20 min and Rs 300 for an up and down. Buses are infrequent on this stretch.
Visit all 3 is possible.

We went in August, that is post monsoon, and the flow was not great but decent. The falls itself is quite distant from anywhere - so a personal vehicle is must (there are public busses available, but not sure how frequently).

The view point for the falls which is on the top of the falls require a decent walk upto the point, most of the people manage up till here - however there is a path which takes down the falls and needless to say requires a decent fitness. A moderate trek for about 500-600m. But its worth it as there you get to see the best charm of the falls.

Its a full day activity, as reaching the falls itself takes about 2-3 hours depending on where you are coming from. There are ample food and water joints, so no issues on that front. Toilet facility is a bit rustic but decent compared to lot of other places.

Beautiful falls if the timing is right that is from monsoons upto jan-feb. We went in the first week of March and the water was divided into two streams. The 20min trekking from the gate till the top was a nice experience and the path is well maintained. But going to the bottom of the fall, though only 600m as told by the guard there, the path is very steep, winding and very rough. Going down is fine but then climbing up was going to be a tough task.We tried for a small stretch but then gave up, bein in the senior citizen age group and travelling alone(driving by ourselves) didn't want to take risk.
But the younger and physically fit people should definitely try it. We could see that the experience at the bottom would have been great.
But nice adventure and definitely worth exploring.

These falls were dirty and had muddy water when we went. The driver said that is because of the Rainy Season so could be but Kerala has a lot of falls with clean water and thus I am not sure whether they are worth the detour we took from our way to Munnar.

They are also a long walk inside which is very tough if you have old people & children as a part of the group. Also the area from where u can see them is slippery and not properly done .
