Nice and tranquil monastry.

Yuksom town is gateway to Kanchenjunga mountain. All the treks and expeditions to the mountain begin here, however many peaks are closed for climbing by the govt including Kanchenjunga. Goechala trek is worth a try

Coronation throne
nov. 2019 • Par
This place is said to host the chair of the King of West Sikkim. The coronation of the King used to take place here. The place holds the glory of the bygone days. The King of a small place used to hold his Majesty is evident here.

My son was disappointed to see the throne
okt. 2019 • Familie
Located very near our hotel, my son was very much interested to visit this place where a king, the first Chogyal of Sikkim, was coronated. In 1642. The car reached the entrance from where we had to walk 5 mins to reach the spot. The area was covered with trees. When we reached the area where the throne was kept under a huge pine tree my son was a bit disappointed. He was under the impression that the throne must be decorated with gems and would atleast be made of silver. Instead it was made of stones with four seats, the top one intended for Lama Lhatsun Chempo. Just opposite to the throne is the Norbung Chorten or stupa built of earth and stones which according to the history was collected from all parts of Sikkim. It is believed that a large number of treasures presented to the Lamas specially its head Lhatsun Chempo was buried within the chorten in the said complex. There is a prayer hall which was decorated with flowers for a ceremony that was to be held the following day .There is the Kathok lake nearby whose water were used for the coronation ceremony.

This was very close from our hotel red palace. Yuksom was first capital of Sikkim. This was the throne of the king. You need a guide to explain the history of this place .

At the coronation site there is a park called Norbugang Park. The park covers the prayer hall, a large prayer wheel, Norbugang Chorten and Throne for the Coronation (Throne Norbugang).
Here Phuntshong was crowned by three lamas and since then a monarchy has reigned in the state. On the stone platform there are 4 thrones (the largest for Great Nyingmapa Lama Lhatshuw Chembo, trone for Phuntshong is to its right). On the back of the thrones are the names of their owners.
The tree that grows behind the throne is breathtaking.
This is indeed a very interesting historical and religious place !

Simple monastery complex with very old relics & building. Its a must visit and take a guide along with you to know the history of the place. Listen to what they say about the stupa, the old tree and about sikkim.

Ancient spot right in the middle of town
mai 2018 • Familie
Yuksom is the ancient capital of Sikkim. Norbugang hosted the coronation throne so the place has historical significance. The coronation throne is a short distance away from the center of the town and now there is a jeepable road.

It is a quiet place hosting a small prayer hall and a bunch of other historical structures.
