Hver Tripadvisor-anmeldelse går gjennom et automatisert sporingssystem før den legges ut. Dette systemet samler inn informasjon som svarer på følgende spørsmål: Hvordan, hva, hvor og når. Our guide had spoken talked to us a lot about Sand Dunes at Kelshi. Talked to us about 400 to 500 years old mud and ceramic pottery shards being discovered at the Kelshu Sand Dunes. In his talks, the word "sand dune" was repeated many times.
Before reading the review it should be clearly understood that having earlier visited the sand dunes of Sum in Rajasthan and having seen the movie of the same name I had built up a mental picture of what I was likely to see with the name Kelshi Sand Dunes!!
From what he told us and what we learned, here is my review of Kelshi Sand Dune. There was a huge tsunami in the year 1524. This cataclysmic event totally changed the topography of the seashore. The villages were destroyed and huge sand dunes were formed burying what was left of the villages.
We had to park the car at a distance and walk up to the beach, once we were there the guide pointed to a hillock to our left and exclaimed " here are the sand dunes of Kelshi"
What I saw was a hillock overgrown with weeds, small and big plants, and Small and medium-sized trees.
What I was seeing did not at all match up with my images of sand dunes at all and I said so to the guide. He insisted that these were THE sand dunes.
On closer look and looking at the sheer face of these hillocks, I found that it was indeed very fine white sand. The complete hillock was indeed a sand hill !! And these hillocks were spread over an extensive area along the beach.
Looking around we also found shards of pottery. As per the Archaeological Survey of India, these pottery shards were dated to be around the time when the 1524 tsunami had taken place.
At one time these sand hillocks must have looked like sand dunes but over a period
of years vegetation, plants and trees have taken root in the sand hills and totally changed the looks, appearance and characteristics of the hillocks, which at one time must have looked like sand dunes!!
