Peaceful and calm surroundings. Beautiful, old temple. Must visit if in and around Kelshi. Can be combined with a visit to the Kelshi beach.

Shri Mahalaxmi Temple.
Parking the car was not much problem as ours was the only car at that time. Temple is just a short walk from parking and within view all the time.
What one sees, is an arched entry gate set within a 7-8 feet high stone compound wall. Two raised stone platforms with 4 steps to gain access to the top of the platform, built equidistant on either side of the arched gate with a huge tree planted in the centre of these platforms. To the left of the gate, there is a square-shaped room with a tiled roof visible above the boundary wall. It is called " nagarkhana" in Marathi. Traditionally nagarkhana is/was a place where musicians played musical instruments, mainly Nagara, which is a percussion instrument like drums. At Mahalakshmi temple instead of nagara, they play "shehnai" (clarinet) in the evenings and during festivals. Behind the wall, tops of two domes and to the right of the domes a squarish building with a conical roof is also visible.
This square-on first view of the Mahalakshmi temple is quite impressive in its simplicity.
The complete temple complex is single-storied. It is enclosed within a 7-8 feet high stone wall.
The building on the right with the conical roof is the minor temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh.
The Mahalakshmi temple was built by the Peshwas in Peshwa architectural style. The main temple has two domes. Main Garbha Graha is under the smaller dome. Assembly cum prayer all is under the bigger dome. Main Garbha Graha has a Shiva ling and idol of the goddess Mahalakshmi appears like a natural rock formation because it is Swayambhu which means "self-born", "self-manifested", "self-existing", or "that is created by its own accord". Kshetra Pal - The god defending the temple area, also finds a place of honour, and his idol is placed between the Shiv Ling and the Mahalakshmi
What creates an impact is the silence, the calmness, and the serene surroundings of the temple. One can feel the positive energy in this simple, unpretentious, and small temple.
