Further to the reviews i would suggest that visitors to the castle take time to lunch at nearby Hadleigh farm, a place founded and still owned by the Salvation Army, it was a re-training centre for the poor and forgotten souls, teaching new skills and temperance following the ideas of William Booth founder of the Salvation Army.
It has a large cafe and good facilities for the day tripper or walker. Staff mostly by volunteers some of whom have learning difficulties it is a beautiful place to warm the body and soul.

Always a favourite even in Winter, it offers lovely views of the Thames Estuary and Old Leigh. Great for picnics on warmer climes.

HadleighCastle is alright if you’re not ina manual wheelchair or a Electric wheelchair because you can’t even get in the grounds because there is a broken slope which I think the council should sort out because it’s very dangerous even for buggies and pushchairs and even the elderly could trip and fall. I’ve got a stuck in my wheelchair I just think the experience is terrible I wouldn’t recommend anybody unless you’re able bodied to come and see the castle which is a shame because it’s really nice for a picnic area.

Hadleigh castle is my favourite place for a walk a great combination of history and views out over the Thames estuary. It’s a free site and you can visit any time. Parking near the castle is very limited so I would suggest going early morning when you can have the place to yourself. There have obviously been improvements in the last year. As the waste bins that were over flowing have been removed and there is new signage around the site telling you even more about the history. If you’ve got time I recommend walking out slide of the perimeter where there are more footpaths for different views of the castle.

Although free there is an opportunity to donate online, worth doing. Spectacular views over the Thames estuary and you get a hint of what the castle would have looked like in its heyday.

Easily reached interesting area with wonderful views over the Thames Estuary to the Kentish Coast.
If you visit Hadleigh Country Park, leave your vehicle there and walk across the downs via the public pathways to visit both Hadleigh Farm and the Castle before returning and enjoying the Country Park.
This makes a really interesting and enjoyable visit encompassing all three places of interest.

I’ve never been to Hadleigh castle in my 68 years oh boy what have I been missing . The veiw from the castle over the Thames estuary and over to Kent is absolutely spectacular and a must see . Then we walked into leigh on sea only takes about 25 minutes of pure joy full of nature and no traffic .

We call this place Windy castle as there's always a breeze! One of our favourite places. Parking is a bit difficult so definitely recommend getting there early. The walk to the castle isn't too long and then the views when you get there are beautiful overlooking the estuary. The ruins are very atmospheric although its quite a challenge to stop children climbing on them! The Salvation Army Cafe by the carpark is brilliant with great views if you sit outside and very reasonable prices.

Sign posted from Hadleigh - follow the road next to McDonalds opposite the church. There is limited parking at the bottom. Unfortunately in May the rubbish hasn’t been collected for weeks and is over flowing. It’s a short walk to the castle. The grass is cut and there are information boards telling you about the history. It’s a great place to walk or just take in the views over the Thames Estuary. There is one large tower remaining and bits of the outer wall, together with the foundations of a few rooms. The castle is free to visit and open at any time. It’s a short walk to Old Leigh. Best time is in the early morning when it’s quieter.
