As told by the tour guide, a lot of things took place for the fort to be built. According to him, human sacrifices had to be made for the building to be constructed. A virgin girl was used for human sacrifice and buried in the compound. The spot she was buried bears the star symbol in the courtyard.

The name was altered from ‘the fake mint’ to ‘Metalen Krus” after one of the Dutch boats. It can also be said that the cross as an object was used as a symbol burnt onto the bodies of slaves from the Fort as they were being prepared to be sent to the Castles to be traded off or shipped out.

For 5 cedi per head, we had our tour. In our vehicle, we could see the fort standing in its glory painted in white on top of a hill. I was confused as to where the entrance was as the design is different but that notwithstanding, we were ushered in by a happy person. Although it was just 1 man, we met the place looked tidy and well organized.

Views from the Fort are great, don't forget your Camera. It's a nice place for those visiting Dixcove, Butre or Busua for a beach holiday. It is next to a fish market and up a hill. Well run place.

The guide could not tell very much, but we have been to Elmina Castle years ago, so we were able to image the terrible things that happened here.

Of you relax at Busua beach and thinking, how to me entertain yourself, go to Dixcove! It has a nice fishermen village and Fort Metal cross that was (surprisingly) built (at least partly) by Prussia! Entrance fee is only 10 cedis (2$).

Having visited several other forts on the coastal stretch of Ghana, Fort Metal Cross is by far the most beautiful and best maintained. In appearance and in views, it's nothing short of MAGNIFICENT.
Got to Dixcove on a hot saturday afternoon and we could see the white fort immediately we got to the town but we couldn't make out the road that leads to the entrance. After asking, we found the road and parked somewhere safe.
Like every fort, we paid a gate fee of about $1 cedi equivalent each (Ghanaian citizens) and were greeted by our tour guide who wasn't looking too presentable (but who cares?) and began our tour. Same old story, the whites came and traded in all sort of things and the rest is history.
After the history bit we spent over 90 minutes at the top of the fort just soaking in the views of the Gulf of Guinea as fishing canoes kept rowing to and fro the fishing bay just beneath, some kids swimming in a sophisticated pool some distance away from the fort, the beautifully architecture of the guest house behind the fort, the old light house on a deserted island away in the distance, the beauty of this fort and of course taking pictures of it all. One word to describe it all, PULCHRITUDE

We travelled in a group of 4 using a 2015 Kia Picanto. Yes a Kia Picanto because the road from Takoradi to Dixcove is very motorable. At Agona roundabout from Takoradi, take the left exit and head straight all the way to Dixcove and fall in love with all the views.

Spent the afternoon visiting the fort with business colleagues. We had a guided tour of the place and were deeply touched. They have managed to preserve many of the articles used during the slave trade so you still have a sense of what took place during that time. The surroundings are nice, with beautiful views of the sea and the fishing village. It's a must see if in the area. The place reminded me of Goree Island in Dakar, Senegal.

Drove over from Busua Beach. Fortunately we had a 4x4 vehicle - you couldn't do it otherwise. Met at the fort by a charming old guide who gave us a great introduction before passing us over to a younger chap for the main tour. Really interesting but as with so many tourist attractions in Ghana it is quite undeveloped. It is nice not to be hassled but as another reviewer points out, they could offer a bit more and make a bit more money from tourism. Accommodation complex next door is still on hold...see previous reviews.

So, we were actually trying to get to Busua Beach but we missed the turn and drove right into the fishing village of Dixcove only to see a beautiful castle on the cliff overlooking the water. So, figured we'd check it out. So we parked, walked thru town and up the steps to be greeted by a 13 year old kid named Ebenezer. He escorted us to the front and introduced us to our tour guide Isaac (most common name in Ghana). Isaac was young and hardly looked official, but it didn't matter, he seemed to know the history of the fort and was nice. I gave him 40 cedi for giving the tour to my family of six, which was more than he asked for, but I figured it was worth it. The castle is in pretty good shape and the history is interesting. Plus you have a great view of the ocean and the village. I'd say it was definitely worth the drive from Takoradi to see.

The little resort they built at the foot of the castle appears to have been almost completed then abandoned. Isaac told me they were going to complete it by the end of the year, but it's already going to need to be refurbished by then.
