A Family Adventure
As we embarked on a picturesque journey from Bangalore to the quaint hill station Sakleshpur is also called as poor's man Ooty, little did we know that we were in for a treat of a lifetime. Situated just 200 km away from the bustling city, Sakleshpur stands tall on National Highway NH 75, offering a scenic drive that beckons both nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.45 Kms to district head quarters Hassan City.
Our road trip was filled with exciting pit stops at various tourist attractions along the way, such as the Kunigal Stud Farm, Yediyur Temple,Adichunchungiri Mutt, Sai Baba Mandir on National Highway ,Windmill Temple at Mavanur and the awe-inspiring monolithic statue of Gomateshwara in Shravanabelagola. We savored delicious meals at the numerous top-notch hotels lining the highway, allowing us to refuel and recharge before continuing our journey. Some of the famous are Swathi , Druvathare Empire Hotel , Kichana Halli Mane , Adigas , Murali Military Hotel , A2B and Many more
Upon reaching Sakleshpur, we found our oasis at Farmers Son Camping, a budget-friendly accommodation that surpassed all expectations. The resort was a paradise for families, boasting a plethora of activities ranging from swimming in plunge pool with water slide and movie nights to interactive games and various pet animal encounters. Our daughter, at the tender age of 7, found delight in every corner of the resort, especially bonding with the resident pet animals.
Exploring the verdant surroundings, we embarked on nature walks, cycling expeditions to near by running river stream and railway track, and invigorating treks to Paravathamma Betta and Hosahalli Gudda. We also visited Shetthyhalli church , Manjrabad fort ,Gorur Dam. The second day saw us marveling at the architectural wonders of Belur Halebidu Temple and indulging in thrilling water sports at Yagachi Dam Backwaters, a refreshing change from the usual beach retreats and even tariff were much less comparatively.
As we bid farewell to Sakleshpur, we soaked in the beauty of Manjarabad Fort, Bisile Ghat, Patla Betta, Ombattu Gudda, Agani Gudda, Yadakumari Railway Track, Mokanamane abhi falls and the serene Kadumane Tea Estate. Our journey culminated at Regenta Luxury Property in Hanbal, where we reveled in luxury and explored nearby attractions are betada byraveshwara temple, manjehalli water falls, marveling at the sheer natural beauty that surrounded us.
Sakleshpur truly enchanted us with its magical blend of natural splendor, cultural heritage, and adrenaline-pumping activities. A perfect weekend getaway for families seeking a break from the mundane, this hill station promises an escape like no other. Whether you seek adventure, relaxation, or simply a taste of local charm, Sakleshpur has something for everyone.
So, pack your bags, hit the road, and let Sakleshpur weave its enchanting spell on you. Amidst misty mountains, lush coffee plantations, and cascading waterfalls, you'll find a paradise waiting to be discovered . My final saying is where ever you go , go with full heart to enjoy the journey rather then the final destination.

A nice star shaped fort almost ~7 minutes from the sakleshpur town. Parking could be issue here n case there are lots of tourist influx. but still your can park at roadside but have to walk. nearby shops are decent ones. no entry ticket and no restrooms. one has to take almost 200-220 steps to reach the fort but these steps were okay for my kids to climb (5 year old). this could be an
issue for elderly. fort is not maintained well but still has the decent structure to look and feel. recommended if you are at sakleshpur. time required to visit is 1 to 2 hours.

This fort is around 5kms from Shakaleshpura bus stand. We need to hire an auto to reach this place eventhough it is on main road as there is no bus stop near to this place. We need to climb the steps to reach this fort entrance. We can see only the fort walls and nothing much to see inside the fort other than a dried stepped well.

Manjarabad fort is a star fort built in 1792 by Tipu Sultan following French star-shaped fort designs made popular by Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban that deflect cannon fire and allow guns to cover all approaches without dead positions.
The completed fort was inspected by Tipu Sultan who then found it enveloped in fog and hence named it as Manjarabad fort; the name Manjara is a version of 'manju' meaning "fog or mist" in kannada. The fort was built in only one day (24 hrs) by his soldiers.

You will like this if u r history lover. Its believed that Tipu sultan built this fort overnight with help of french architects. Its Star shaped walls (can b seen from sky/drone) are its speciality. You have to park the vehicles on main road and climb @ 250 steps. The fort is clean with nothing lot to explore. The views from top are awesome. . .

Interesting, small fort. Not much by way of ruins, but gives good views and photo opps for the 'selfie seekers' :-)

One would never guess that one of the bylanes on the winding highway will lead to this imposing structure. The star shaped fortification is perched on a hill and is accessed after a 20 minute walk that includes a tiring flight of stairs! :)
Wonderfully scenic views of the valleys can be taken from several of the guard/gunnery towers. There isn't anything by way of signboards to draw tourists' attention to any of the structures within the fort complex.
Despite no apparent upkeep, the structure is still in decent keep. Much can be done to nurture and cultivate the heritage/historical tourism potential.

It is beautiful. Accessible via stairs, so could be difficult for kids and elders..
Once you reach there, the view is very good, the fort itself is star shaped and quite big area, so you could chill..
Going in summer/during the noon could be a bad idea, as there is no shade, so you would be sweating.. better to go in morning or evening.
Overall nice spot.!

hows the road from sakleshpur to kukke now ?
Skrevet 28. desember 2016
Just travelled yesterday.. Shiradi stretch after the concrete road is really bad. As you might be aware, 23 km is concretized. There is talk of making next lot of 23 km and work is expected to commence in 1st week of January 2017. As of now, that 23 km is really really bad.. like a cattle field in many places. I think in view of the expected concretization, authorities are leaving the roads unattended.

Hi Friends,
I got to know from the comments that the STAR shape cannot be realized when we are in the fort.
But is there any location a little in higher altitude than this from where we can capture the STAR shape of the fort?
Skrevet 3. august 2016
Only with a drone camera I guess (which I believe is not allowed as per law) . There is no vantage point high enough in the vicinity to take in the star shape. You can see the view in Google Earth.

Hi:,
I want to visit this place along with my family pls inform this place
Skrevet 22. desember 2014
It is a nice place to visit in Sakleshpur. But completely neglected. A long climb of more than 150 steps I think... You might want to take water with you while climbing the place. Once you reach the top, the view is really nice. On the foot hills of the fort in the mainroad, you have some shops where you could get some snacks also... Do not expect many people to be in there as very few visit this place.
