Beware of the spice scam

This place is a hard sales pitch in disguise of an educational attraction. It claims to grow and blend herbs that are Ayurvedic and their facility is government- approved. Our “guide” walked us along a short path, crumbled some leaves for us to sniff and then walked us into one of several outdoor rooms where he handed us a list of products without prices. Then to demonstrate the life changing pain relief properties of some cream, several men came in to give us a complimentary neck massage. Then the “guide” requested we give them each tips. Then to the sales room. Amateurishly packaged liquids or small bags of herbs are offered. I purchased 3 products for a total cost of $323 US. Shame on me for not doing the calculations until after check out.

Interesting, but very expensive products in the shop.

Nice visit with a passionate herbal medical student.
Short tour of the herbal and spices garden with some explanation about their medical characteristics.
However after the tour, you get a shop presentation of the products and a brief but nice massage.
Since the massage is an extra, they ask you to tip/pay whatever you want for this massage.
After that you pass the shop. This is unfortunately the big catch of the visit.
No prices to be seen, and when you by something, you pay far to much.
So please inform about prices before.
Otherwise nice visit.

Vorsicht! Auf keinen Fall auf diese Touristenfalle hereinfallen. Völlig überteuerte Produkte ohne Kennzeichnung der Inhaltsstoffe. Betrug von Anfang bis Ende an der Kasse!

Effectivement, c'est une arnaque ! Le soit disant guide a beaucoup de bagout et on se laisse entourlouper ! Des massages sont proposés soit disant gratuitement... nous nous sommes fait avoir, avec une mauvaise conversation, les produits très basiques coûtent horriblement chers ! Ne pas se laisser embobiner par leurs bla bla 😡

SCAM ALERT. NO ONE every GO there. They seem nice however the scam you for your money. They deliberately over charged us 170 USD. Unaware at the time they took full advantage. Disgusting. Make sure to never visit there!!!

Dont be led to go there

You will be convinced that your ailments will be cured. Put simply the won't. They will fill you with stories and offer free massage but so expensive and I literally saw the tour guide getting a backhander! Be very aware!

Good ACNE cure

So, you can get scammed very quickly so I am giving 4 stars. We ended up buying a lot but didn’t get double charged. I am here to say that what is absolutely worth buying is the jojoba/aloe/sandalwood oils. Combine them according to their specifications and use on ACNE. Nothing clears up my sons face so face - literally over night - it’s better than any prescription or acne cream on the shelf. Careful and avoid eyes because it can sting. Maybe you can combine your own aloe jojoba and sandalwood from somewhere else but it is magic and they should get 5 stars for introducing that! We do have to say we like the red oil and herbal balm but not sure it’s magic - good but not magic.

We joined the List of the Scammed!

I visited the Island Spice Grove with a friend on 25th February as part of a tour arranged by the Transport Manager of our hotel, the Mermaid Hotel and Club Wadduwa.
We were shown around and taken to the gift shop by the Salesmen. They convinced us that the oils and spices they sold would be a great gift for our wives so we said fine, could they put together a package costing about £30 for each of us. They readily agreed and returned with three bottles each and showed us a price of Sri 6,325. We both agreed, I paid by Credit Card which the Salesman claimed was rejected. I was surprised, they asked me if I had a debit card, I said yes and they asked me to pay with this. I paid, but on my return found they had increased the price ten fold to Sri 63250. . I realised later it was unlikely my Credit Card was rejected, it was a ploy to get me to use my debit card. However, our banks are investigating this issue as we write, and we would invite any of the other holiday makers affected to do the same.
The transport manager has been unable to help, but has promised in writing never to use them again. I have contacted the Sri Lankan Tourist Police with details of the scam, ref 191436. I also researched the Island Spice Grove on line and found this is a common and ongoing scam.
They deliberately positioned us to pay by debit card, then again deliberately stole from us by increasing the cost ten fold. We are not the first to fall victim to this scam.

Ci sono stata a dicembre. La visita al giardino delle spezie è stata molto interessante. Ci hanno fatto un massaggio con i loro oli e poi ci hanno fatto entrare nel loro negozio dove ho acquistato prodotti per 650 euro!!!!! Mi sono fatta prendere la mano. I prodotti comunque erano buoni tant’è che il giorno dopo, essendoci scottati al mare per il sole, abbiamo usato una loro crema che, come per magia, ci ha tolto all’istante il bruciore delle scottature lasciandoci una pelle morbida. L’unico consiglio è di non farvi prendere troppo la mano altrimenti spenderete parecchio. Comunque una visita al giardino delle spezie bela consiglio!

Finger weg von den Produkten der Gewürzfarm. Auch über Reiseveranstalter gebucht. Nun hier erst alle Kritiken gelesen. Reiseveranstalter hat es nun organisiert, dass wir ALLE unser Geld wieder bekommen. Das ganze ist traurig aber wohl eine Masche in Sri Lanka. Ein Ehepaar hat über 500 € dort gelassen...möchte nicht wissen,wie viele da hereinfallen ;(

You can send me a message via TripAdvisor. I only bought one product there, which was expensive. We had visited another Spice garden near Candy where I’d been given a short massage. I bought spices that were reasonably priced. Only hours later I felt the benefit of the balm. I regretted not buying the balm & we went to Island Spice garden to buy a similar balm. I was surprised by the price, I must admit. The balm is excellent but definitely expensive.

I know enough about your business to know it is a 'rip off'. All Trip Advisor comments are TRUE. Very overpriced and only became aware of this today when we received our Credit Card statement.

You need to mix s small portion of oil and the balm and after mixing well apply on the area where you have pain and nicely massage with the mix

I bought the green oil, red oil, sandalwood oil and another. So far I have opened the green oil and sandalwood. First of all, the Sandalwood container was NOT oil and came out more like a gel, and does not smell like sandalwood. The green oil, did not smell like what I sampled there, and it was more gel than oil. I use pure essential oils in the US, and I am familiar with pure oils. I can tell you this is not it. Personally, I am extremely disappointed with the amount of money I spent, and getting home from holiday only to find out it was not what I expected.
