We were recommended the pound bend float from a friend. It took about 2.5 hours which apparently is fast compared to normal. Get in the river in the east side and get out where the tunnel shoots out water on the west side.
Word to the wise, there are rapids that you need to gingerly float over or walk over, so bring some close toed shoes you don’t mind getting wet, also being a sturdy ringed floaty so you can arch yourself fully out of the water so your butt doesn’t get swiped by a rock over the rapids

There were a lot of people over the weekend which weakened the experience but the water was great and the kids had fun. Parking is bad with that many people .
Still, it was a different experience that we would go back on quieter days.

It is an interesting place when I read for nearby places to visit. The river and dock are there and informative notices to tell you the history of the place. Nice short visit.

This is a beaut spot that most Melbournians I've talked to don't even know is there!
It's great for a relaxing swim or float in the river or exploring the rocky tunnel (water shoes recommended!) A great pastime seems to be the kids tossing balls up in to the tunnel and catching again after it bobs down the mini waterfall.
Also a BIG TIP from a comical misadventure I ended up on with my children (that could have been disastrous!)
The highlight of jumping in with a tube and peacefully floating around the loop (bend) in the river for an hour was recommended to me so we came all prepared with 4 inner tubes. What I failed to do was double-check which side of the 'bend' we got in!! *Definitely DON'T get in on the left carpark or West side of the loop!!!!*
I mistakenly led my children around the river for almost an hour, in the wrong direction, before realising we were lost. After traversing some fun gentle Class 1 (or less rapids) we eventually ran into a large tree blocking the river at a path exiting out to a campground, Longridge Park I believe. Some kind souls gave us a ride back to Pound Bend. A 10 min drive but would have been a 40 min walk with no shoes!

Regardless whether its winter or summer Pound Bend is a great place for a walk or a family picnic. You can also have a swim in the Yarra or just sit on the rocks under the waterfall on the other side of the tunnel.

Pound Bend has is a great place to swim on a hot day and very popular. I went for a walk in winter on a 13degree clear day and it was beautiful. The river walk follows the river through a quiet natural bush setting. It meanders along the river and comes out to a field. Usually there are a few kangaroos in the field or under the trees in Summer. Follow the track next to the field and come out at Parks Victoria facility. There is a native plant nursery here and a public toilet on the corner. Follow the road or tank track back to the car park. Takes about 1.5 hours, 2 hours if you go off path and walk all around the river edge. Lovely bush area, we even saw a kookaburra!

Had a swim here after a day exploring the Yarra Valley. There’s some interesting history from the Gold Rush era and the water is very family friendly. There are no facilities here, except an area for picnics.

As you come into the Pound Bend carpark you have a picnic area to the right and the short walk to the tunnel on your left.
The tunnel outlet creates “rapids” into the river.
There are plenty of swimming spots in the area.
There is a 3.6km walk around the area. This is not well signposted but is easy to follow once you find it. It takes about 1.5 hours to do the full loop.
In the picnic area there is no bins so take your rubbish home.
Picnic tables & bench sets were dotted around the park. Plenty of grass area, enough room to kick a footy.
Toilets were disgusting & had no toilet paper. Best to do a bathroom break elsewhere on the way in or out.
No dogs allowed in the park.

Pretty place to stop at and have a picnic . There is not a huge amount of room to sit right at the waters edge and it can be a little busy but definitely worth stop. We were lucky enough to see two canoeists come through the tunnel. I’m not sure if this is normal practice or not but it seems quite daring given the darkness of the tunnel and they said they couldn’t see a thing. One guy seemed to have a broken his paddle. There were a few kids splashing around in the shallow water with their parents holding them, but I would be very careful with kids who are little older and might want to venture in a bit deeper as the water can move quite fast and there could be debris or broken tree branches just under the surface, the water is quite murky .

Hi, Since Pound Bend is connected to the Yarra river is it actually clean to swim in because closer to the city the Yarra is actually quite polluted.
Thanks, Greg

I’ve lived in Warrandyte for 16 years and at one stage had a property that backed on to the river. I now live 300m from it. It’s generally clean to swim in however, not after rain as it has upstream contaminants (pollution, trees, snags) come through. If it’s been a few days I’d nice weather, it’s a perfect place for a swim. End of Bradley’s Lane is the spot to go but you MUST obey the parking signs or you’ll be fined.
