If you're looking for the perfect photo with your partner in Bali, this is the ideal spot. It's a bit of a trek—about a 2-hour drive from Ubud (starting as early as 4 am), and even longer if you're staying further south on the island.

We left our hotel at 4:15 am and arrived at 6:15 am. Upon arrival, the first step is to purchase tickets for the shuttle bus (round trip) and a token for the photo session. The bus ticket costs RP 45k per person, and the token for the picture is RP 55k, totaling RP 100k per person for that iconic Instagram shot.

Our token number was 90, and we were told we’d be done by 8:30 am. However, the wait was much longer, and we didn’t have our photos taken until around 10 am. During the wait, we had breakfast and took a few other photos around the area, including a stunning shot of the mountain just before it vanished behind the clouds. The wait can be quite long, and some might question whether the pictures are worth it. But in my opinion, the photos were amazing, and I'd say it's "worth it." Of course, others may feel differently!

Yes, it is a tourist trap.
Tourists are not allowed to enter the temple, which is behind closed doors at the top of the flights of steps. The tickets allow tourists to enter the temple grounds, the square. All there is to do is to queue and wait for your number to be called for your photos to be taken while you pose at the Temple Gates.
No doubt it is a beautiful location, with views of the majestic Mt Agung in the background.
Unless you are into posing for photos to post on your social media accounts, don't bother.

The place is not exceptional, and it's not worth the whole scourge. First you are forced (tourists) to park at the bottom of the mountain (even by scooter) to pay the shuttle 45k per person that takes you to the first temple (locals obviously have the right to climb directly on their own) then you have to pay the entrance fee to the site of 70k per person. We had to wait from 7:00 in the morning to 12:00 for 1 minute of photos.
Also, the guy who took the pictures is designated, he puts pressure on, and his photos are not all successful.
Anyway, not a must as a place.

Access by pay shuttle from car park, then entrance fee and short walk uphill. Great views of surrounding countryside, cannot enter temple so only get to see the exterior staircase and statues etc. This is really a photoshoot spot if that is what you want and prepared to wait in line, you get a ‘deli’ style ticket number on the entry ticket for your few seconds photo opportunity at the gates with Mt Agung as backdrop.

Once you arrive in the lower parking you have to pay for the shuttle to the upper parking. Then you get your saru attached over your clothes and if you’re a woman with bare shoulders, over your shoulders as well (this one is shockingly free) then you have to pay for the entrance fee before the short walk up a steep hill to the site. Once inside, they anoint you with holly water and you enter the open area. Gate to the left, stairs to the right, big area in between. There is literally nothing there but views, but wait! You cannot look at the views! Because you have to wait in line 3 hours for some locals to take your “Instagram” photos on their iPhone. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I kid you not. We tried to find ANYTHING of historical or cultural education…. Nothing. Have to go online to learn more about it if you want. Next to this awful IG story maker, is a temple… that you can only visit if you are there for prayer. Then, another short walk away is the “Garden.” Again, I am told the views are great and they have tons of tourist IG photo ops available: a swing, a boat, a heart. Cannot look at the views, must take IG photos by them, on their iPhones.

Oh, you want to go to the bathroom? You have to pay for that too? Thirsty? You should hold that in as well, prices are double the double prices everywhere else.

This was the most ridiculous experience, a waste of time, money, effort and most importantly feels like a slap in the face of the culture.

My college girl doing it for Instagram? I went there because I had to, but my private driver told me I had to leave by 3am for the day, and I was like, oh, but I was right when I thought about traffic and shooting! I leave at 3am and arrive at 5am! Still, a lot of people.
It's on the mountain, so foggy, no sun, and cold! We went, convincing them it was a good memorial…
Employees have free photographers mechanically photographing their phones. We had to pose in advance, which was ridiculous, and too embarrassing because everyone was watching 😢
What's more, the crack gate is a trick to take a picture with a mirror on,

A beautiful temple, large is perched in the heights... It starts with a shuttle ride to the temple and there all this spoilt with the "Attraction Park" aspect...
You are asked to take pictures, and once you leave the temple, everything is paid for (viewpoint for paid photos). Too bad, the authentic side is ruined. Those who pay pass first between the temple gates or on the steps or at the bottom of the queues are created...

A somewhat strange experience. You can already guess from the parking lot that there are some tourists on the road here, but we were shocked that everyone seems to come just for a photo in front of the famous Sky Gate and pay little attention to the rest of the temple. In front of the gate, tourists sit in droves, dressed in sarongs, waiting for their slot for a photo in front of the gate for 2 hours. For this purpose, you are assigned a number on admission, which is called out via loudspeakers and gives you the feeling that you have to get through an annoying administrative process. A total of three poses can be performed before the next ones. If you are unlucky, the mountain of clouds is imposed and you might as well stand in front of any other of the numerous gates on the island. It became very clear to us here how much tourism is changing the Balinese culture and we did not feel very comfortable contributing to it, even if we did not have a photo taken.

You are assigned a number for this extraordinary photo... Our problem was that in front of there are 200 numbers... for the rest useless to move if a person has his period, he will be forbidden from temple.
