Bewitching and vibrant, the Chapora Fort has remarkably withstood the ravages of time.
Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder and one eye is enough to appreciate the beauty of this secluded ruined fort.
This fort is a blend of history and beautiful panoramic views.
Perched on a hill, it is a delight for hikers like us who appreciate a short, relatively easy hike to the top.
The ruins of the fort whisper stories of Portuguese colonial rule and the vantage point offers breathtaking views of the Arabian Sea and nearby Vagator Beach.
Chapora Fort was once the stronghold of Sultan Adil Shah of Bijapur, but was conquered by the Portuguese and became the precious pearl in their necklace of forts.
I don't want to bore you with its entire story, but I'll give you a few small clarifications that will take you just one minute of reading.
Built by the Portuguese in 1617, the Chapora Fort has witnessed centuries of history and has played an essential role in the defense of Goa from various invasions.

Good to spend sometime here and click photos at non crowded areas of the fort… especially the side where you can see meeting point of 2 water bodies.
The weather should be good else you will be burned here in summers… not easy to tolerate the heat.

Stunning views, great location
And you can sense its major role for the Portuguese defenders from over 400 years ago,
All despite neglect in its preservation. Tourists should be asked to contribute for each visit, and history explanation added.

Parking is available for cars near the fort. The climb to the fort is steep and long, if you have old folks in your group plan for rest and go scenario every 50-100 mtrs.
The view from the fort is good. I don't think it was completely worth the climb. Just a tick in the goa visit book. We did get some good pictures from the fort.
There are not enough shades at the top, but we could find a place to sit and relax before the walk back.
Lot of small eateries around the place.

Chapora Fort in North Goa of Dil Chahata hai fame is a must visit place in Goa. Open 10 am to 5 30 pm entry is free. Best time to visit is Nov to Feb 24. Go early at 10 am, wear proper shoes, cap & sunscreen. Carry lots of water. Climb is not tough. So dont get scared. You have to walk 300 meters to get steps- 150 in number. Takes 15-20 minutes only to climb. Views of Vagator beach and Arabian sea are awesome from top. Lot of photoshoot points. Keep 90 minutes for this visit. Decent stalls of coconut water below.

This is the famous fort were movie Dil Chahta hai was shot. It has a wall facing sea. However, one has to take a long trek before reaching the same. Visit early morning or around 4 pm, as it can be quite hot in the afternoon. If you have visited any other fort, eith Aguada or Cabo De Rama, then it is not worth it.

Chapara Fort (whose claim to fame is the shooting of Dil Chahta Hai) is a nice fort wall facing the sea. The wide area between the walls has been left wild, with the local flora and fauna.
It makes a good location for sunset, especially when sitting on the fort walls.
The entrance has a few steps, but requires some walking on uneven surfaces once you enter. The complex closes by 5pm.

If you are planning a visit to the Fort, wear suitable clothing and footwear. The walk to the start of the 120 steps is steep and then you have the steps to tackle before you reach the Fort. Thankfully there are lots of drink.stalls on the way up the hill so stop off for a refreshing fresh coconut 🥥 water for around 40 Rupees. Lots of other stalls selling various items such as hats, jewellery and souvenirs. Pop into the local bars for a snack .... they make you very welcome

We visited Chapora fort just after monsoons & were treated to beautiful, vistas of rolling greenery with cliffs overlooking a beach on one side & what seemed to be the river on the other.
There is hardly anything that remains of the fort, so there is nothing for history enthusiasts but for photographers, hikers this is an absolute gem.
Can easily be combined with Vagator beach or the Anjuna flea market - both worth a visit by themselves.
The only thing is, the fort is in the open with hardly any tree cover - so wear a hat & keep yourself hydrated.

An ASI monument, Chapora fort is a popular tourist destination due to scenic ocean view of around 210 degree along with small island.
Vagator beach is clearly visible from this Fort.

Добрый день! А откуда вы пешком шли до Форта Чапора? Долго ли по времени?
Skrevet 10. oktober 2015
