We spent 5 hours here and could have stayed longer. So well laid out and immaculate. The reverberations downstairs was amazing, thought provoking and so moving. I am so grateful these amazing people are telling their stories. Thankyou 🙏 The self serve coffee shop is really good and nice to have a break. All the staff and volunteers were very friendly. Thankyou to everyone involved in creating and running this fantastic museum.

Hands down the best testimony to the human experience as a museum. The artefacts, personal possessions, presence of holocaust survivors to talk to and 3D interactive screens were amazing.
Very highly recommended.

A very comprehensive exhibition and museum of Jewish history, persecution and resettlement. Walk from level one to four then take the lift to lower ground to the section on “Reverberations” to listen to the testimonials of survivors and how they answered some rather provocative and evocative questions like “Do you forgive?”, “Do you want revenge?”, “Was there justice?” Etc etc.
You would appreciate this museum so much more if you have visited one of those concentration camps eg Auschwitz. It was quite a moving experience for me.
Do come if you have the spare time - 2.5hours should suffice.

The museum is well organised, starting on the ground floor with history of Judaism with a small section on early Jewish immigration to Australia. As you wind up through the building, the exhibition shifts to explaining prejudice against Jews, the rise of anti Semitism and the horrors of the Second World War and the Holocaust.
While not unversed in the subject, I definitely discovered things I didn't know. The exhibits were fascinating and well presented. The ladies at the desk were very helpful. If you have time to visit a less well known museum, you will gain a lot from here.

The museum is beautifully curated, until the visitor reaches the topic of Israel. The museum shares post WWII immigration to Australia and the US but barely mentions all the refugees that fled Europe for Israel. When I asked the administrator at the museum why there is so very little about Israel, I was told that "Israel is too hot a topic". Even the volunteers at the desk were surprised by this answer.
At a Jewish museum, "Israel is too hot a topic"? Regardless, of political leanings, Israel is a nation and that the Sydney Jewish Museum is "uncomfortable" exhibiting a nation, declared by the UN as such; honoring the Jews that left Europe to then fight for independence, was saddening to me and truly disappointing.

Hi Rozzi, thank you for taking the time to leave a review and bringing this to our attention. We are saddened to hear that this was your experience at the Museum and that you didn’t receive answers to your question during your visit. Indeed, there is a section of the Museum that goes into depth about the migration of Jewish people to Israel after the Holocaust. Our Judaism exhibition also explores Israel as an ancient homeland for the Jewish people. The Sydney Jewish Museum is a place that collects objects relating to, and educates on, the history of the Holocaust and the experiences of survivors who came to Sydney after WWII. It also illuminates the vibrancy and diversity of Jewish cultural life here in Sydney. Due to the specific location and unique nature of what our curators collect, our exhibitions tell very local stories specific to Australia, rather than those of Jews in other parts of the world, including Israel.

The ladies at the front desk were wonderful. Very friendly and helpful. The museum is well worth a visit. There is a lot of good displays and it is very informative about the Jewish people in Australia and what happened to them during the Holocaust. Everyone should visit this place to remind you what humans can do to others.

Very well run and a good mix of historical facts and live sharing from sons and daughters of survivors. Excellent design and easy to move around. I appreciate it gives great honor to both adults and children who lost their lives during the holocaust as well as conveying memories to today's generation. My full respect and appreciation to all the workers there.

An instructive and moving experience and a reminder of what terrible deeds were done by people .
When a politician blames a group or uses rhetoric (to make our country great again ) , alarm bells should ring
We must learn from history - look back and make sure such awful things - systemic murder - cannot occur again !
Staff were great
We spent many hours there - could have been more - a highlight of our Sydney stay .

Have been wanting to go here for some time and with limited opening days, today was my first opportunity. Thoroughly “enjoyed” the experience. Very informative. The interactive exhibits were great - especially the ones you can ask questions of the survivors. Very well done.

This museum has the solemn responsibility of being a community hub for information about the Holocaust. It even includes a memorial with named plaques. However, it is also a source for unique information about Sydney's Jewish community. It balances both of these responsibilities very well, with modern and innovative displays.

How long is the tour? Do we need to buy tickets before the trip or can we buy them at the museum. We are four adults.
Hi Alyssa,
The free guided tours usually for for about an hour. You can purchase your tickets upon arrival at the Museum at the admissions desk.
Thanks, SJM

Not sure what you are referring to, my comment had no mention or reference to the number of Jews murdered.

Hello I am arriving at Narita Airport and transferring to Haneda Airport on 7th Nov. I am booked into your hotel for the night and was wondering how I obtain the free shuttle to and from the airport as I will be flying out again on the 8th Nov from Haneda.
Many thanks.
