I will be honest, I was blessed to 'happen upon' The Jewish Museum when I was doing a walk from Circular Quay to Paddington, more than 17 years ago.
Although I wasn't dressed (in my view) to go into a museum, I checked with a lady working there and after her approval I went in. I was so glad I did and I have lost count on the number of times I have been back.
People may think it is only about the war but it isn't. One would be a fool to think that there isn't that in the journey as it was a monumental time in their lives. However, a large part is an informative walk through Judaism, customs, culture, faith, and basic way of life.
Hands down the most informative and well organised storytelling Museum I have gone to. Even though its size would be considered miniature compared to others in Sydney.
I was very blessed on the day I first went the museum wasn't very busy, I managed to corner a curator and just ask the poor young man question after question. I am sure I kept him for near two hours. I haven't seen him since, I hope I didn't traumatised him with my continual questions.🤣
I have selected the date I did because it doesn't allow me to go back and select ALL the months from 17 years ago that I have visited the Museum.
I never went on a Saturday, knowing it would not be open due to it being their Sabbath.

The presentation of the exhibits is beautifully set out. We should all visit to remind ourselves that all humans should be treated with respect and dignity. To be guided through our visit by the children of holocaust victims and to told just snippets of such sad stories was so special to hear. It is akin to visiting the footprints of the twin towers in New York.

This museum does a great job of telling the story of Jews both in Australia and around the world throughout history. They accentuated the history and data they provided with poignant and interesting stories.

Sydney’s Jewish museum provides a compact and comprehensive overview of Jewish culture tradition and history with a heavy yet relevant focus on Holocaust history. The origins of the Australian community are alluded to but in a somewhat cursory fashion given the long and substantial pre WW2 history.
The bookshop has some special treasures with autobiographies from local authors referring their history and ancestry.

Very nice museum. Admission is free on Sundays. They also offer free guided tours. I would recommend 2 hours. There’s a nice little cafe upstairs with sandwiches, desserts and coffees (including specialty types in the machine). Entire cafe is kosher. Very close to the 333 bus stop on Oxford street. Near St. Vincent’s Hospital. Best not to bring plastic bags or anything extra because you have to store in a locker near the entrance (free of charge).

This museum is truly magnificent with its ultra modern architecture, very easy to find in Sydney. there are different sectors on the history of Judaism and a whole section on the holocaust, you can spend hours there, a digital library. The 2 volunteer ladies at the reception really welcomed us very warmly, explaining to us the composition of the museum, they also gave us very interesting addresses in Sydney. We are French and speak English but unfortunately there is no translation, you have to come with a digital translator. Go there, you won't regret it, it was free on the day of our visit.
Be careful it is closed on Saturday, on the Hop on Hop off bus they announce it open, big mistake.

What a beautiful museum telling an important story and offering a vital message for everyone - Jewish or not. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. Located in a lovely part of the city. Put it on your must see list for Sydney.

Interesting museum that included a holocaust museum/memorial, history of Jews in Sydney and history of Jews back to the beginning. While most of the museum focused on the Holocaust we were most interested in the history of Jews in Sydney being familiar with the material covered in the other exhbiits.

How long is the tour? Do we need to buy tickets before the trip or can we buy them at the museum. We are four adults.

Hi Alyssa,
The free guided tours usually for for about an hour. You can purchase your tickets upon arrival at the Museum at the admissions desk.
Thanks, SJM

Hello I am arriving at Narita Airport and transferring to Haneda Airport on 7th Nov. I am booked into your hotel for the night and was wondering how I obtain the free shuttle to and from the airport as I will be flying out again on the 8th Nov from Haneda.
Many thanks.
