Beautiful centre piece of the Sydney CBD. A gorgeous interior with chandeliers, lovely tiled floors, painted panelling and an organ to rival all other organs! Impressive sandstone exterior

The Town Hall is another striking structure in the center of Sydney. It looks like it would be a museum, but is actually still a functioning government building and also a venue for many public events.

Stunning exterior which is beautifully lit in the evening. There was a Marilyn Munroe exhibition on but the $29 entry was more than I would want to pay. Busy surroundings with shopping, a train station and light rail.

Este magnífico edificio de ninguna manera pasa inadvertido, en primer lugar, por su arquitectura y porte que llaman la atención con su torre reloj y escalinatas, pero también por su ubicación sobre la Estación Town Hall que se utiliza con frecuencia. Pasamos por allí varias veces, caminando por la zona y de paso hacia otros sitios. En la misma calle se encuentra la Catedral de San Andrés y enfrente el Queen Victoria Building, otra de las atracciones imperdibles.
Caminamos por la calle lateral y accedimos a la explanada que lo separa de la Catedral. Allí hay unos bancos donde nos quedamos un buen rato rodeados de aves. Habíamos visto fotos de su interior y quisimos hacer la visita guiada, pero no estaba disponible por lo tanto, hubo que conformarse con apreciarlo desde afuera.
A pocos minutos a pie se encuentran la Sídney Tower Eye, el Hyde Park y la St.Mary’s Cathedral como para completar un circuito.

Sat in seat AA9, and no-one in that block could hear. I made out a couple of anecdotes, but mostly all we could make out was the delighted laughter of the audience in the main body of the space. General consensus was that those seats should not have been sold for that event.

We were so looking forward to enjoying a tour of the build only to discover that tours were discontinued as a result of restorations. Another building viewed externally, dating to 1869 and in the neoclassical architecture style and claimed to be the largest and most ornate late 19th century civic building in Australia. I guess we will have to revisit Sydney.

Town Hall is in a central part of Sydney and for tourists, there is a lot to see in and around the area. If you are getting on/off the train at Town Hall Station, the building sits right above the station.
Mostly, it is just a lovely building to take note of as you walk past. In summer the purple jacaranda trees out the front make a nice photo.
Across the road, is the QVB (Queen Victoria Building), built in 1898 to celebrate the Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee and next door is St Andrews, the Anglican Cathedral (1860).
It is a 5 minute walk to Hyde Park in one direction and, in the other direction, a 9-10 minute walk to Darling Harbour.
The Town Hall itself is a grand building in the High Victorian style. It was completed in 1889, just 100 years after the colony was first settled. When finished, it dominated the city skyline and was by far and away, the most imposing and impressive building in the colony.
The most dramatic features are the classical temple-like facade, the wide staircase leading to the front doors and the soaring clock tower. The architects didn’t shy away from excess. They splashed out with lions’ heads, finials, urns and friezes and didn’t hold back on columns or arches either.
Today, the town Hall houses the offices of the Lord Mayor of Sydney and those of elected councillors but it also frequently hosts community events and concerts. For this reason, it is not always open to the public. Although normally you can do tours, I believe that they are currently cancelled due to covid restrictions.

The Sydney Town Hall was built in 1889 and is on the State Heritage Register. It houses the chambers of the Lord Mayor of Sydney, council offices, and venues for meetings and office functions. It lies on top of part a cemetery complex. It is the largest and most ornate late 1880's building in Australia. Town Hall House behind it in Kent Street was opened in 1977.
