There was no sign except for a small one saying walking trail. In hindsight, we think that must have been it. Nowhere to turn around with a caravan though.

Short pleasant walk along creek followed by a short incline to a lookout over wetlands. If you have binos it's possible to spot crocs and Jabiru from the lookout. (Takes some patience but sit for a while on the bench and look closely at anything that looks like a log in the water) If you don't have binos it is still a really nice walk and viewpoint. We arrived at midday but as the walk is in the shade and the viewpoint has a couple of trees covering it you can walk it at any time.

Off the road to Bramston Beach, north of Innisfail, is this pristine beautiful place. A smooth, shaded 1.5km walk from the carpark follows the small Alice River, then leads up a grassy hill overlooking the wetlands beyond. No sign of a road or building - just wilderness and marsh. We saw a young jabiru, jacanas and egrets. NB Be prepared for mosquitoes.

Drove from Port Douglas to Cairns- curvy road - don't converse and don't use your phone. Concentrate. Stick to all speed advisory signs. Got to Cairns. Got lost. Get "Your Welcome Map of Tropical Cairns". It's an excellent street map. Come from Cpt Cook Hwy. becomes Sheridan St. Stop near Aplin St for obliging help from "Regional Tourist Info Centre". They can also book trips for you. Keep going to end of Sheridan, turn right at end then left into second street (Draper St) and right into Comport St and go straight. Runs into Bruce Hwy. See next post for 2nd episode.

Unfortunately we visited in a very dry period. Despite that the walk along the creek was very pleasant and well shaded. At the end you walk up a hill and look over the swamp. Should be lots of bird life when there is more water about.

Meine Carpet blieb fast 2 Stunden in meiner Nähe.

This is not a flashy place, but it is a nice place for a walk and a great view. You take a windy walk through the forest with the river/creek to the left and at the end you need to walk up the grassy knoll. Whilst it may be a little steep, it is worth it to get the magnificent and surprising views of the country. Whilst we were told there were crocs in the swamp, in the mid afternoon we didn't see any movement.
Have a look at my photo to see that it is worth the side trip off the Bruce Highway (unfortunately my panorama shot wouldn't upload properly to give you the full view).
To get there, drive 7kms in on the road to Bramston Beach you will see a small sign on the right hand side, take that right turn and it is about 1.5km to the parking spot for the swamp walk.

Stayed near this park and decided to visit to see if I could add to my sightings for the month.
Was not hard to find, turn off Bruce Highway to Bramston Beach, then take right into Cartwright Road, about 1.5km along you'll see the sign for a walking track. Parking is in dedicated area next to the road.
Walked through thick rainforest scrub listening to early chorus, especially from orioles. Thye path is in flat ground, following a creek. The surface is even, althoiugh there are some tree roots occasionally. No problem for most people.
After about 500m or so, opens out into flood plain with path going up a hill overlooking the lagoons. Path is mowed grass and quite steep. At the top you have a panoramic view where you can sit in peace and watch the waterfowl, including geese, ibis, cormorants, egrets, darters, ducks etc. There are also birds on the hill including sunbirds, wagtails and mannikins.
The area abounds in wildlife - wallabies also around.
It's a nice peacful area, worth it if you like national park walks and / or bird watching.

The map shows this swamp as a national park on the back roads just north of Innisfail. But there were no signs at all on the highway and we had trouble finding it. After 45 minutes driving back roads (we ended up approaching from the wrong direction, the south) that threatened to peter out, we finally encountered a roadworks flag man near where we though the swamp should be. "Can you direct us to Eubenangee Swamp?" we asked. "You want to go to a swamp?" he replied, sweat dripping down his face in the 30-degree heat. "Nope, nothing like that around here; best go up to Babinda." We thanked him and drove on. 200 metres down the road we crossed a little bridge and saw a car park and a large sign: "Eubenangee Swamp National Park"!
Needless to say, this large area of low-lying forest and wetlands is not well developed. The trail in to the view point was not long, but it was awkward: a narrow track through forest along the edge of a deeply cut creek. Signs warned of crocodiles, but the water in the creek appeared to be too low to host anything bigger than a turtle. Apparently, this area is an unusual and rare example of a fresh-water mangrove swamp, and the month had been hot and dry.
After a kilometre or so on this narrow trail we broke out into grassy meadows and ascended a beautiful hillock at the top of which was the most perfect birding viewpoint created: an open grassy knoll with a few shade trees and a 360-degree views of swamps and ponds below. From here our binoculars found geese, ducks, a White-Faced Heron, and the wonderful Jabiru (Black-Necked Stork).
The way back to the parking area gave us added highlights. We followed an alternative track through the grasslands, roughly parallel to the strip of forest through which we had arrived. Here we spotted pairs of Chestnut-Breasted Mannikins and the splendid Red-Backed Fairy Wren. Australia's Fairy Wrens offer so much beauty and personality in such small packages. This swamp is worth looking for.
