Words cannot describe how much I recommend The Kitchen at Old Government House. The food is absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced for the quality of the food and the service. David (the barista) and Michelle (the chef) are always happy to chat and are eager to serve with a smile. The coffee is lovely with lingering cereal and fruity notes and I can highly recommend the Arancini with salad. The arancini is light but certainly flavoursome and leaves you wanting more with the salad always being fresh with a variety of flavour and texture. The flavour dances on your tongue with each bite. I am looking forward to seeing them succeed as of all the cafes on the QUT campus and indeed in the area, this one is a level above the rest.

Once the temple of Brisbane high society, where grand balls were made and nobles and royalty stayed.
Beautiful architecture where classes were defined (servants at the rear) and where male and female occupied different parts of the house too (Governor’s wife with children upstairs while Governor and men in other rooms downstairs).
Did you know that a French Chef has invented the Lamington in this house?
Built in 1862, this magnificent mansion is now a museum and is free.
It is located next to the City Botanical gardens and it tells you a lot about the History of Brisbane.

Such a beautiful house in a magnificent location being near the Botanical gardens. Free entry. The walk through must be seen to be appreciated. The art gallery upstairs is worth a look but the main attraction is the house itself. The chandelier is absolutely one in a million.

You’d think The Kitchen at OGH is just an average café on a university campus, so what could possibly be so special about this place? Turns out that this café is actually the kitchen in the old governor’s mansion over 150 years ago, and is the birthplace of the lamington, which is a local dessert that is sadly not common outside of Australia. Apparently, so the story goes, the governor’s chef was blindsided by a request to prepare food for an unexpected number of guests at the mansion, and using only the available leftover ingredients, cobbled together the dessert that now bears the governor’s name, and everyone there was so impressed that it became a thing. Also, the lamingtons they serve there today – and the melting moments and mochas – are quite good.

Un joli bâtiment dans le bas du Central Business District qui permet de faire un saut dans le passé.

You can go inside for free and it is interesting to go inside, but most of the rooms are bare and almost empty. Upstairs is now an art gallery. It could be much better if it was stocked with more period furniture, historical things etc.

오래된 집, 내부의 디자인도 멋지고 다양한 공간이 있다. 일층은 집의 역사를 볼수있으며 이층은 갤러리로 이용되고 있다. 이용가능한 탁자와 화장실도 있다

QLD was established as an independent colony in 1859 and one of the new colony's priorities was to build a viceregal residence so that the first Governor, Sir George Bowen, could live in a grand state. It was inhabited by a succession of governors from 1862 until 1910 when it was transferred to be the nucleus of University of Queensland, and later in the mid 20th century transferred to the National Trust and was the first building in the State to be heritage listed in 1969.
The building is described as Classical revival style and very interesting to view old photographs of changes through the years to what it is now. There is a very good information pamphlet that shows the layout of the ground and first floors and reflects the social structures of the day. Interestingly, the Larder and Vegetable rooms now serve as male & female toilets respectively. The building is very sparse of furniture but there are interesting interpretative displays throughout. The first floor houses an exhibition of the works of William Robinson.

Worth it given the proximity to other attractions such as the Botanic gardens and near the bridge to the south bank. It is free to look through and the building itself is quaint and historic. There is a Robinson art exhibition upstairs currently

Old Government House is a grand historical residence with an interesting history made fascinating and amusing by the highly articulate tour guide. There was plenty of opportunity to ask questions and she knew all the answers. Book for the tour and allow a couple of relaxed hours. You can check in bags etc. at reception. There is a cafe there too, although we did not try it.

We were staying in South Bank in Brisbane and walked to Old Government House. I know there was a free bus in the downtown area so that is something you could get on as well.
