We visited Coffin bay twice during a trip to Port Lincoln. We visited beaches on the ocean side (gunyah beach)and on the bay side (7 milebeach). Both are absolutely stunning, mostly empty and for both a 4wd vehicle is required. Water in the bay was cristal clear and great for snorkling/ paddle boarding /swimming. Emu’s and kangaroos aplenty in the park as well. Awesome place..... as long as you bring a proper off road vehicle.

On a day trip from Port Lincoln (45km away) we visited Coffin Bay. As it was early September i don't think many of the 'wading into the sea to eat local oysters' were running - summer is the time for that. As we drove out of town a mother emu and her chicks were crossing the road - how cute we thought (took a photo). As we had a hire car we didn't want to go on unsealed roads so in the National Park we visited Yangie Bay (good lunch stop but bring your own food and drink) and the Point Avoid lookout - all reachable by sealed roads. On the way we must have see a dozen emus and one decent sized lizard (bigger than the sleepy lizards which are everywhere).
Those with a 4wd can go deeper into the NP - get a map from the Tourist Info Centre in Port Lincoln before you go - here you can also pay the park entrance fee ($10 i think) .

We travelled in a two-wheel-drive conventional car and got to see most places we wanted to see. Rugged scenery including the coast and various bays. Ideal for four-wheel drives which would give you a bit extra access. A good days outing.

I visited the park in a 2wd, much of the park isn’t accessible, however that is clearly stated on the maps. The accessible parts of the park were beautiful, a great place to spot kangaroos and emus.

The NP is large and if you are into nature and hiking then I recommend staying in the park . The camp sites looked good but you must be self sufficient. Most tracks require a 4 WD which is clearly stated on the park's website. Park fee must be done online or via Port Lincoln visitor centre. We only visited the popular sights and as the weather was cool, windy and showery then we didn't linger.

One of the most beautiful places I have visited. Pristine, untouched and stunning with the whitest sands the clearest water. Most of the park is only accessible by a 4wd but it’s well worth the effort. Please take care driving and watch out for the wildlife.

Spectacular sand beaches, magnificent view of the golden island from point avoid. Highly recommend a four wheel drive. Multiple stops at oyster walk to bask the beautiful beaches...

We loved Coffin Bay, we did the Oyster Shucking tour, wearing waders, while sitting in the bay at tables shucking and eating the most amazing fresh oysters! Lovely cafes and views of the coastline.

Fantastic sites and mostly sealed. Even the 4WD tracks are of a good quality. The only negative is that you must go online to buy a permit. $11 for entry but but don't mind paying for it if the money goes back into maintaining the park and I think it does. Just need more opportunites to pay for the entry permit other than online. Not everyone has access to the internet.
Recommend Point Avoid and Greenly beach.

Hi, was thinking of heading here sometime soon and was just curious about the accessibility available in a 2wd (Hyundai i30) ? Are the unsealed roads only capable of being driven on by 4wd or is it possible for a 2wd to drive on some? I've driven on unsealed roads before but how rough are the ones in the park?
Thanks!

It says 4wd only off the tar seal. I wouldn't go off road without 4wd as some parts of the track are soft and it is sandy and you can get stuck. We were bogged up to the chassis and we were in a 4wd! Also if people are in there before you and churn up the track it becomes a 'floor it' to get through.
Is an amazing park to visit if you can get off the tar!
