This replica of Mawson’s hits has many informative displays and an accurate portrayal of the harsh life in the Antarctic experienced by Mawson and his team.The volunteers are very helpful and provide first hand experiences of their visits to Antarctica

Brilliantly curated. So much information presented in manageable chunks and logical order. Harsh conditions and sometimes tragic events relayed, with a helpful sprinkling of humorous moments and facts. Well worth the visit. Fascinating.

We visited the Mawson Hut Replica Museum in Hobart. Meticulously set up with every possible detail. Brings the whole Mawson antarctic experience to life. Excellent guide to answer questions and provide details on the Hut. Highly recommended.

What a fantastic and informative experience. The Mawsons Hut Replica Museum was so interesting and the staff were enthusiastic and helpful. Would highly recommend to tourists and locals alike!

This is a great museum full of interest and the chance to learn of the bravery of Mawson and his men on their South Pole Expedition in 1912. The hut is laid out as it was for Mawson and his team. There was so much to learn and having a guide who had visited the Antarctic added to the knowledge of life in this wilderness. We were fascinated and thank you to the volunteer guides.

This was a stirring, edifying, and well done telling of the 1912 expedition to Antarctica and the South Pole by Mawson and his team of talented men in 1912 and.... The replica of the Huts was well done and the biographical information was moving about each of the team.

Our son was leaving for Macquarie Island for 6 months, so we checked out Mawson's hut. It was really interesting finding out about a part of Antarctica. There were lots pictures, facts and stories about expeditioners and how they lived and worked. Its a great way to learn and keep the Hut doing. Don't forget to donate.

Visited Mawson’s Hut Museum which is housed in a replica of Mawson’s Hut which was built and established by the Australian born in England, Douglas Mawson and his men in Antarctica in 1912. He was a geologist and explorer and it has to be said, adventurer. His work and the work of his team in 1912-13 paved the way for much of the important work that has been done in the Antarctic since. The reconstruction of the replica, complete with many items which were authentic for the time, has been meticulously done and provides much of the feel of the original, except for the howling winds which have an average daily speed of 130km/h. It was also a lot warmer outside the replica in Hobart today, despite their being a cold 25km/h wind from the west and a top temperature of 16C.
Best of all, two volunteers are on hand to answer questions and engage in discussion, both of which they do very, very well. Sue spend a long time inside the museum talking with one of them.

Just wondering if the food court/cafe food sticks to theme of the museum and serves food such as stewed penguin, seal jerky, husky and other dietary dishes enjoyed by the early Antarctic colonisers? I tend to boycott museums where the food court does not match the exhibit.

Ticket prices
Adult - $12, Concession $10,
Child 16yrs $4, Family $28.
The website can be found on Google but I'm unable to enter it in this app??
Time spent looking at the attraction should be dependant on on your interest in history. Upon entering I was a bit hesitant at what to look at but the trustees will put you right at ease with magnificent stories of historic and personal nature as that have been to the South Pole themselves. The enthusiasm was infectious. Personally I gave it three hours.
