Outstanding Neo classical facade
feb. 2021
You only need to see the facade view from the street as this is the best part of this church. It is an outrageous Neo classical facade on the top of a hill in Battery Point framed by old trees. I just loved it for its total disregard for its surrounding architecture.

A classic!
mar. 2019 • Par
A magnificent church located atop a hill in the middle of Battery Point, the classic architecture and proportions of this lovely historic church are superb. Although not generally open to the public, there is a very convenient glass door at the entrance to the church through which the delightful interior can be readily viewed. An historic gem, now over 180 years old but still in excellent condition.

Unusual looking church with a stark Georgian sandstone facade and a three tiered bell tower.

This church is located on Kermode's Hill in Battery Point. Unfortunately it was closed when we walked past so we only got to see the exterior.

After subsequently reading literature about the church I discovered that it was consecrated in 1838 and that the tower was added less than 10 years later. The three-tiered bell tower is said to have acted as a landmark for ships on the estuary parts of the Derwent River in the early years of the colony. The porch was added in 1888. Both the tower and the porch were designed by former convict, James Blackburn.

Iconic landmark
sep. 2018
This iconic church built in the Neo-Classical style of local sandstone is one of the earliest Anglican churches in Tasmania. Situated on the highest point in Battery Point, its tower has served as a landmark for sailors since 1847. Even today, the tower of St George is still an easily recognised landmark. The church still has its box cedar pews a throwback to the days of its construction.

A lovely church to enjoy!
feb. 2018 • Par
This red brick church is attractive and it is also very solid.

What I like is that we can see the church inside. A glass protects from anyone to do any vandalism. That is good!

They have a red carpet. The walls are a bit pink. Attractive and they have wooden benches.

The organ looked great. It must be working well. Too bad that no one was playing the organ.

The altar had an eagle and grapes, all made of wood.

There was a beautiful painting. Very cool!

This is worthwhile to see!

Neo-classical gem

Inspiring elevation, alit at night, and a landmark during the day, this Anglican Church is typically understated on the inside, but well worth a visit to admire if you are in Battery Point.

St George's is not a dragon of a place to visit.

A gorgeous piece of history awaits you as you wander onto the tranquil grounds of St George's Anglican Church.
I've ventured here a few times and it really is worth a look and/or to slip into the quiet splendour of this grand architecture.
The local minister is a wonderful man and IF you get a chance to hear his maestro-wife play piano then you'll feel the touch of heaven surround your soul.
Recommended.

Lovely Looking Building
jun. 2017 • Venner
This is a classical architectural building that looks so grand that it is worth a visit just to see it from the outside and admire its own beauty

It is one of the older buildings around when the area is not that old itself
