The views from the lookout are stunning and it is not as busy or windy as Mount Wellington. The cafe at the top also offers great food at very reasonable prices.

Lovely lookout with interesting information. A little closer than Mt Wellington lookout with some short walks available.

We got there using public transport. It was a beautiful look out which has a cafe along with the signal station.
We got some fish n chips which were 🤌🏾 (chefs kiss).
We made the dumb choice to do a bush walk down (3.4km) to Churchill Avenue, fully unequiped and unaware. It was quite steep and was hard on the knees coz we didn’t have appropriate shoes. We were exhausted by the end of it but satisfied.
We had to walk (felt like a hike) to catch a bus back to the CBD. So just plan your bush walk and travel before you go on it.

Went to Mt Nelson for lunch and the view was not disappointed in both. The food was delicious and the atmosphere in the room was good. The view was amazing. Worth the trip for both.

Nice simple lookout point with about 270° view of distant mountains and coastline. Very pretty, easy to access, paved all the way and free! Take care not to slip on or stand in kangaroo droppings, which are prevalent!! Inside the little signal station building there’s a great photo-map of what you can see through the 270° windows above, so you know what you’re looking at. Great. There is also a cafe nearby that looks good, and with a million dollar view I reckon it would be worth patronising.

brilliant place to go, the look out was amazing and took so many photos, we went for a short walk as we were all exhausted and then had afternoon tea

It's a long climb up in the bus to the lookout, but well worth it. Good views of Hobart and the bay area.

Took a Metro bus to Mt Nelson and it was a great trip on the bus. Get a Green card from the Metro shop for $5 and top it up with how much you think you will need for a few trips on the local bus routes. The views from Mt Nelson are amazing, plus there is the old Signal station visitors centre to visit with some fascinating history in both items on display and a panoramic display of the waterways. Visit the cafe for a meal or a coffee - say hello to Hamish who provides great service . Totally enjoyed both the trip on the bus and the time spent at Mt Nelson.

Well worth the drive. Very warm day in Hobart but up the mountain was pretty cold and windy so take warm clothing with you.

the cheapest way to view the city from mount nelson is to walk to franklin square and catch a Metro bus from stop N a route 58 weekdays or 57 weekends and public holidays, the cost per adult would be $4.40 one way full fare or $2.00 concession,seniors,or uni student all fares are now now one way under Metro new ticket system the trip up is quite nice as you pass through Sandy Bay and Mt Nelson suburb. Hope this helps.
