Princes Bridge is an essential link between the North and South of Melbourne. The Bridge spans the River Yarra, it's the heart of Melbourne. You can cross by car, tram or on foot. The bridge dates from 1888, it's an engineering feat that has stood firm for over a century.

Princes Bridge spans the Yarra River, connecting the northern and southern sections of Melbourne. This historic bridge carries cars, buses, trams and pedestrians. Mostly the bridge carries pedestrian traffic. It's the best route to get to the National Gallery of Victoria and the Arts Precinct on the southern side of the Yarra. Prince Bridge has proved to be durable and has lasted from the 19th century to the present. Main building materials are granite and wrought iron. Princes Bridge is quite beautiful, you can cross the bridge any time of day or night. It's a free attraction.

Few things are more iconic than Princes Bridge. The bridge connects the city and Melbourne's southern suburbs. You can also take a short walk over the bridge along Kilda Rd to the Arts Centre and National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). The Princes Bridge Hotel, better known as Young & Jacksons, is located in Swanston St at the city end of the bridge. It's one of Melbourne's best-known rendezvous.

Prnces Bridge connects the two halves of Melbourne. Few structures say "Melbourne" mored emphatically than Princes Bridge. These says, the bridge connects the Arts Precinct to the Central Business District. The CBD is in the North, aligned with Swanston Street, and the South is St Kilda Road, known as "the Boulevard." By the way, pedestrians can cross Princes Bridge any time, day or night, free of charge, As a friend of mine said of the River Yarra, which the Bridge spans, "it's not large, but it's nice,"

Princes Bridge, named in honour of the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, was built in 1888, in time for the second International Exhibition held in Melbourne. It is a beautiful bridge over the Yarra River, and is heritage listed. It connects two very important of Melbourne, north and south and acts as a kind of meeting place for people and events. The historic Flinders Street Station is next to it and many other significant sights are nearby as well.

This magnificent bridge will take you from the busy hub in the city across to the art's district in the city. The present bridge was built in 1888 and is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.

At the time of Australia's federation on 1 January 1901, Melbourne became the seat of government of the federation. The first federal parliament was convened on 9 May 1901 in the Royal Exhibition Building, subsequently moving to the Victorian Parliament House where it was located until 1927, when it was moved to Canberra. So, Melbourne is like a defacto capital for the nation. :)

When you stand here on this bridge, you can see why... it's heartbeat is strong. The Yarra runs through the centre of the city and people are enjoying the many delights of the city. There is never a time where you walk over this bridge where tourists aren't taking photos from it or of it.

It's got to be part of. your city experience.

Princes Bridge links the north and south of Melbourne, crossing the Yarra River, and connecting Swanston St to St Kilda Road. When Melbourne was settled in 1835, there was no convenient river crossing. Princes Bridge, opened in 1888, it was the third bridge built on the site. It is built of concrete and bluestone, colonial Melbourne's favorite building materials. Princes Bridge is 30 meters (99 feet) wide and 120 meters (400 feet) long. It carries road traffic, pedestrians and trams. The bridge is the focus of numerous celebrations, including Moomba and New Year's Eve. Princes Bridge is Heritage listed. To see the Bridge, you can walk from Flinders St Station, or take any tram going south on Swanston St.

I have walked across Princes Bridge many times and recently for the first time underneath. This bridge was not the first built here, but was erected in 1888. It is a main thoroughfare and entrance connecting many areas to the City of Melbourne. Seven municipalities contributed to the building cost of the bridge. It connects Swanston St and St Kilda Road and has shared bike and pedestrian paths under and on it. It leads you to Flinders Street Station and Federation Square and other significant tourist attractions.

The structure itself comprises of: [for those who understand this technical information]
- three span curved iron plate girder, mouldings and balustrade plus lamps
- bluestone, granite and sandstone
- cast iron spandrels featuring various coats of arms,

A great place to photograph [from the top or underneath]: the Yarra River, fireworks, sporting venues and the Southbank precinct. Take a walk underneath to see the red girders holding up the bridge and hear the rumbling of cars and trams as they cross above you. If you have the time, take a cruise along the Yarra River or a water taxi to a venue, as they all pass underneath this stunning bridge.
