This is one of those scenic National parks that is famous for many treks with different difficulty levels suiting every indovidual, especially the 1000 Steps which is not just breathtaking but extremely tiring.

Highly recommend

Burke's Lookout is not seperately listed to the Dandenong Ranges National Park. some 3,500 HA of Australian bush in the Dandenong Ranges 30-40 KM from Melbourne. Burke's Lookout is not well signed and provided a small car park just south of the Mt Dandenong Lookout which is not free to enter. The views across greater Melbourne are excellent.

I have to agree with a past poster, in that the lack of information centre was disappointing. We had not much advice to go on and were using google maps etc. Everywhere we go in Australia, we use info centres, even in small rural towns, so I was shocked there was nothing to aid the public in this way. Bit let down.

So lucky to spot this guy whilst hiking today. Near Eagles Nest picnic Ground. One of my favourite spots.

We planned a trip out to this area under our own steam, but as we are not lol also, we didn’t know about any of the closures due to covid. There is no information centre to. Is it in the area. The nearest centre we located, said they were not aware of any closures. We were bitterly disappointed to arrive and find most walks a closed due to covid.

The Mountain Ash is an impressive tree; it is the tallest flowering plant on Earth. Just walking among these trees is uplifting. The Dandenongs are Melbourne's lungs on a hot day, when these mountains are usually several degrees cooler than the flat lands.

The Dandenong Ranges National Park covers some 36 square kilometres and offers some interesting walking tracks and scenery and some cold-climate gardens. A feature is the tall Mountain Ash and tree ferns that are seen in the Sherbrooke Forest area. Start at Ferntree Gully and get your self lost through the winding roads

"Tranquil forest walks, quaint hilltop towns and charismatic animals such as lyrebirds and wallabies."

This citation from the Dandenong Ranges National Park web site, perfectly says all that needs to be said of this unique and most valuable natural attraction, situated so close to the city of Melbourne. It is well deserving of its Certificate of Excellence.

The Park is not to be missed by anyone interested in nature, beautiful scenery and keen on outdoor activities. You will be inspired to take the odd hike or three and to find out all there is to know about its history and its plant and animal life.

The well set out web site is useful for planning your day or two, or more, up in the Ranges. The photos there clearly show the beauty of the place.
