The Royal Exhibition Building was in use initially from 1880 and for the Centenary World's Fair in 1888. It is the only historic permanent trade building still in use. The Royal Exhibition building is a marvel that has far outlived. its projected lifespan.

You can't miss the beauty of this building if you walk in Carlton Gardens. It stands out and you can't stop clicking away on your camera to take photos of this magnificent building and architecture. It is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Building. We didn't get a chance to go inside but found out that that there are 60 minute guided tours available. Would definitely like to do this in the future.

Se alza en medio de los Jardines Carlton y lo visitamos juntamente con el Melbourne Museum que se ubica justo al lado.
El día que fuimos había una exposición dedicada a bebés.
El edificio es espectacular, imponente, declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad y se realza por la belleza del entorno.
Se puede realizar tour guiado con costo (actualmente, AUD 29 por adulto).
El predio cuenta con parking tarifado por hora.
Nosotros fuimos en el City Circle Tram, que es gratuito.
El día que fuimos había una exposición dedicada a bebés.

This building is internationally significant. It is listed by UNESCO because it is one of the few buildings remaining from the great exhibitions in the 19th century. The Royal Exhibition Building is still in regular use, it is truly a magnificent building, showing exquisite craftsmanship that is rarely seen today.

The Royal Exhibition Building is one of the few surviving buildings from an era when nations asserted their stature by holding exhibitions of industry and commerce. The Royal Exhibition Building is still used frequently for civic events and commercial exhibitions. Many graduates received their parchments here. The interior is ornate; it is a fine example of 19th century craftsmanship. By the way, the Royal Exhibition Building is heritage listed by UNESCO.

I didn't see a way of entering the building just to visit, but the building and park beside it are gorgeous!

Hi, My husband and I are travelling to Melbourne late June, do we have to pay to look inside the Royal Exhibition building. If so can we do that when arriving there on the day ? Thankyou

We were not able to go inside the building which we wanted to do. There was no indication that it is open to visitors. So we just walked around the building which is wonderful. And there are plaques giving information about the building.

I just googled Royal Exhibition Building Melbourne entrance fee and this came up:
Cost $10 Adults, $8 Concession and $7 Children/Museum Members. Tours are held most days at 2pm, subject to availability. Tours may not run when the building is in use for certain events and exhibitions

I remember an old, rather large, pipe organ being in the Exhibition Building in the 1960s and would love to know about its history, why it was there and what happened to it. Eagerly awaiting to know. Thanks, in anticipation.

I only walked around the outside of the lovely building on Christmas day. Sorry, I don't know what happened to it. But I did try to read up about the old organ. Thanks for pointing out that bit of info which I missed. Very interesting.

How do you get to visit this world heritage site?

It is situated at the North of the city's CBD and is accessible by train, getting off at the underground parliament station then crossing Lonsdale and Latrobe streets and walking through the exhibition gardens to the building. Fortunately, because of it's size, it is easy to see from quite a way back. Alternatively, trams run past the front of the building along Nicholson street, and these can be caught anywhere from the city. Melbourne also has a public bicycle rental system with bikes available at most of the main public areas and stations in the city.
