Content was good, reasonably priced, but each interaction overlapped with the next as there wasn't enough room to fit everything in. So, to hear each presentation was difficult as the noises were distractingly confused in places. Some of the first hand stories were heartbreaking but also hopeful for the future.

An absolute essential place to go if you have any time in Christchurch. This small but well presented museum so clearly lays out the experience of the city over the earthquakes of 2010/11 and beyond. The exhibits are so sensitively done and give you so much information which is engaging and emotive. There is some interactive elements, and by the end you feel like you really understand what caused the earthquakes, how people were affected and the aftermath, including now we are over 10 years on. We were here for about 2 hours. My only negative is that because there are a few videos sometimes there is noise coming from lots of places which can feel a bit distracting.

An amazing, emotional recount of the events and experiences of the people of Christchurch during and after the earthquakes! Thoroughly recommend this to all visiting Christchurch!!

You need to allocate at least and hour to visit the Quake Museum. It is well planned with static and interactive displays. It is essential to watch the video interviews of survivors. Some of them are very moving. The follow up interviews are equally fascinating. You leave with a real sense of the tragedy and Re growth of the city.

A must see. Very informative and take time to watch the videos of those whose were nearby and survived the quake. Staff was most helpful.

This was really encitefully and informative. This made the earthquake very real and human to us. We not only appreciated ourselves and where we live but the resilience of the Christchurch people

I was entranced my this place. It was pretty much what I expected in the first and last bits in terms of displays and exhibitions, interesting and well set out with lots of different things to do -probably better suited to adults than children.
However, it was the video testimonials of people and their personal stories where my husband and I sat and didn't move until we had seen every one -from the copper who needed a plan for the prisoners in his care in the watchhouse to the kids in the swim school to the husband in another city wanting to find his wife in one of the collapsed buildings...we couldn't tear our eyes away. If you skim over everything else, allow yourself the time to sit and be enveloped by this display and its raw humanity, it is worth it. Highly recommended.

Kia ora, I'm glad you found your visit to us worthwhile. The videos are an important feature of the exhibition. The first series were filmed within months of the February aftershock. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. However, I found that it was far to expensive for what it was. I was under the impression it would be a lot more interactive. However, It was eye opening. I just felt they could have done a lot more and that it's definitely more geared to overseas visitors.

We appreciated this museum was incredibly educational. If you want an authentic experience of the earthquake you must come here and hear the stories of the people in it. There is also education on how the city will be rebuilt and the technology that is being used. Fascinating and I feel a must do in understanding more of the cities experience in recent years. Worked nicely hand in hand with the tram hop on hop off experience.

There is a a lot of paid parking in the downtown area. I would park my vehicle and walk to the museum , the damaged cathedral , the 3 memorials , and the mix of damaged and new buildings in downtown .

I hesitated for a long time outside, because I'd intended to go in but then when I saw how much it was I was surprised and I had no way of knowing whether it was worth such a lot of money. I waited in case somebody came out and I could quiz them but nobody did - a young couple was also wondering whether to go in or not (they didn't). There wasn't much information outside and the building didn't look very big so in the end I didn't visit but I wandered around the city reading info boards and visiting other places.

We are coming up to 5 years since the Feb quakes and what a shame you missed going in, especially for $20 (around 9 GBP). This is the closest I hope anyone else would ever get to experience the life changing and devastating natural disaster we have undergone and explains why our city is still such a mess. We are finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and although we live with the daily inconveniences of roads, sewerage systems etc still being repaired we often wonder what tourists think of the place. Quake City does show real footage of the event (along with other exhibits) so if people have time to sit and watch these it is worth it. Unless a bit of research goes in prior to visiting Christchurch I imagine it just looks like a broken down small city with big gaps throughout and lots of glass nice modern glass buildings going up. I suspect people are unlikely to have any real concept of what happened here and why people are still affected. I hope you enjoyed your time in NZ and got to enjoy some of the beautiful sights :)
