Baldwin Street is definitely worth a visit if you’re in Dunedin. It doesn’t take long (and costs nothing) but it’s great for photo opportunities and, after all, it holds a Guinness World Record!

Can now tick this off bucket list. Did as a group of medics covering FIFA WWC and we all made it. Great thing to say you've done it but certainly not easy. Was inspired by group of 70+'s coming down when we arrived at bottom.

Yeah so at the end of the day it's just a steep street you take a picture of and move on from, but these are the sorts of places you want to go to on holiday surely? You don't go all the way to Dunedin then say you couldn't be bothered to check out it's main claim to fame?
Be careful though as it is quite a bit out of town and not walkable, in my opinion, from downtown area. So you need to get a bus out here or be on a tour.
Good stop for photographers to take the 'leaning house' shot against a straight road view and a nice touch to see Hooper's Step at the top.
There are flat, shallow stairs which are much easier on the knees for going back down. For going up it has to be the head down, bum out and tiptoe steps approach to be traditional. :-)
My only gripe, and why I took a star off, is that the tourist centre beside it has now closed down so you can't get the I Climbed the Steepest Street certificates anymore. Pity as I like to have a little souvenir rather than just take a photo.

Hubby and myself walked up and down Baldwin Street, along with a bus load of tourists - he was huffing and puffing on the way up so we got a bit of a cardio workout - wouldn't want to live at the top of this street and I'd want good brakes on my car :)
We parked the RV in a street around the corner - there's no way you'd take it up there !

To be honest there's little to see. It's a residential street. It is, as billed, very steep indeed. Er...that's it. It's one photo, and you're done. Not worth going off your itinerary imho.

Full-on touristy but fun.
Walking up the steepest street in the world…maybe, maybe not.
Nonetheless, it’s a good lung and leg burner.
Curious it’s not used by locals for workouts

I had an odd feeling I had ben on steeper streets but I drove up it, had dicciulty turning around and down it. It was steep witha 35% gradient in places but down the bottom it looked like any other small hill side street. But Dunedin needs some claim to fame and this is it. Worth a visit.

Definitely worth making it to the top for the view back down. I chose to take the steps to come down which was a little less risky I think.

You have to see it to believe it, what a fantastic sight, wouldn't live there even if it was free. Imagine this street on a freezing Dunedin winters morning trying to get either up or down it.

The worlds steepest street…
I joined 2 bus loads of tourists walking the street… yes, the top
portion was the steepest.. it was ok, was. a Little tired afterwards,
but that wore off after a few mins!
The actual road walk was hard on my “ dress shoes”.. this was not planned…, so walked on the flatter stepped sidewalk footpath!
What can I say.. I WALKED UP THE WORLDS STEEPEST STREET!!
