Not much to do for a family just wanting to to do snow play. If you're not skiing or snowboarding you feel like you're out of place. People don't come here to build snowmen lol. We tried the make shift tabogan area and unfortunately first ride down my daughter got rashed under her neck by the rope. It was so badly set up. No one else bothered using it .

The views were stunning I loved how the magic carpets were covered over and the chair lifts were awesome. All the staff were friendly loved the ski lessons. Great facilities. The toilets were well cleaned and prices were great. And great Cafe!

My partner and I are from Australia and have had the most amazing holiday in New Zealand so were really disappointed with our experience at the Remarkables.
I did as much research as possible before going over and we had our bus passes, lessons etc all booked well ahead of time. Despite this, the whole process from catching the ski bus to hiring gear to the lessons was not a positive or pleasant one.
We were advised to catch the first ski bus of the day to make our lesson on time, however, the bus was 45 mins late. Once we finally arrived staff were not helpful and told us conflicting information.
We had booked the 3 Day Intro to Snow package for snowboarding and told our instructor we had zero experience snowboarding hence booking Intro to Snow. However, the lesson was pretty abysmal to say the least. The instructor didn’t teach us the basics - from how to stop properly or get back up once falling, let alone how to strap yourself into the snowboard properly. Perhaps the group size was too big as once we were shown a certain manoeuvre, only some of the group got to practice it before moving on. Overall I would not class this as beginner friendly and found the instructor lacked interest in the class.
Once again, I’m disappointed to leave a negative review as every other activity we have done in NZ has been incredible, however, our experience at the Remarkables was not. I think it’s important to let beginners know that this is not beginner friendly whatsoever and you won’t find guidance or assistance from the staff there.

Sad to write a negative review here but our experience was very poor, even as english-speaking tourists.
Staff overall were not helpful nor knowledgable, gave very little instructions and actually told us the wrong area for bus pickup.
The bus itself was 45 minutes late despite us booking the first service of the day. Seats are not allocated and many buses were for staff-only or were already full up, and we were spoken down to for not realising the bus was staff only (no signs).
Staff in the ski area were rude, uninterested and again the signs were not very easy to follow. We eventually found our ski lesson area after asking around, and our instructor, despite us advising we had no snow experience and being part of the “intro to snow” lesson, did not give us any confidence with their limited instructions. We fumbled and figured out ourselves how to put the boots on, how to put them in the board, and how to even begin sliding. All we were taught was how to move around with one foot on the board. We had 2-3 attempts of sliding a few metres down a slope and then immediately were taken a further 50m up with this limited knowledge. It did not feel like a healthy environment for learning (and failing), and the learner zone is right at the bottom of a main slope next to the kids with people everywhere around you. We cancelled our remaining 2 day of lessons as we had zero confidence in the teaching of the staff.

In the snowboarding sport we might call my skill level "Bad". So I only got to go on the beginners trail. In my head cannon the more advanced trails are amazing and in my actual cannon the beginners trails are also amazing. I like the colour white so I'm pretty down for this snow business. A fun experience for my bum tbh. Very bruised. Would go again.

The Remarkables is so much fun on a clear sunny day! Had a great experience from start to finish with the car parking shuttles they run to the customer services team! Even know it was busy everything ran very smoothly!! We will be back!

Best and safest ski zone I have seen across the world
We were learners and there were instructors to guide.
Small kids as young as 3 years were doing it

Was no play area for small children or activities. Eating area was super crowded and had to get in different lines to get varied food choices. Very expensive. I paid for full day ski lesson. I only did half the lesson as my instructor was quite condescending and didn’t even help me up when I fell over. Other instructors stopped and helped me and gave me useful advice. My son’s instructor was awesome.

Our experience as first time Skiers was fantastic. From the fitting process to the hiring of the gear it was all good. Only thing I would say is if you don’t have kids don’t go during the school holidays as you’ll be queuing a lot. Our instructors were all awesome but in particular Brigid was fantastic. Her knowledge, teaching methods and experience was second to none and we learnt so much from her. Highly recommend to anyone.

I used to ski in NZ when my kids were teenagers, rather than at home in Australia, because it was better, less expensive, more reliable, less crowded and they sold healthy food on the mountains.
I am back 12 years later and sadly it’s all changed.
Queenstown is just choked, thousands of hotels and apartments in a small place with very little infrastructure. The snowfields are obviously still great but they are just so crowded. The lift queues are long (I’m used to that in Australia) but there are just so many people on the runs. I found my whole day was about avoiding collisions rather than riding my board. And it’s not that cheap anymore.
The food outlets are dreadful, overpriced fried or battered rubbish. Has anyone heard of a sandwich?
Really disappointing, but I don’t know what the solution could be. I suspect like many great destinations it has become a victim of its own success.

Hi,
We are thinking of driving up to the Remarkables Ski Area in July. I was wondering how quickly the car parks fill up and when do people start arriving by car to settle to ski for the day? How many car spaces can it accommodate? The bus is an easier option but the car is more convenient with kids??
Thank you
Skrevet 13. juni 2023
Having driven up in early Autumn (no snow) and recognizing the last few km are not sealed and you would need chains I would suggest you catch a bus which operates from downtown (check the web site). Far less hassle in my view despite the kids.

Hi, where is best pickup location for the Remarkables ski bus near the airport? Thanks

Hi there, first time to ever ski. We are a family of 4, kids ages 11 and 13. jWe want to book the family pass - 2 lessons - one day only.
Just have a few (plenty) questions with regards to the Remarkables. Its suggested that we take the bus to the resort and not drive with our rental 4x4 ?? we want to get there early.
What can and should be arranged beforehand? Ski equipment, bus transfer, lift passes, magic carpet(not sure what this is?) Do we need to go to the resort a day prior to our booking to arrange all of this, so we avoid having to stand in the queue? Or how else can we do it....just to make things easier.
What do I need to buy? Goggles, gloves, thick socks, beanie? I understand that due to covid this is not for hire?
If we arrive early (before 10.20 when the lessons start), will we be able to start "practicing" on the snow....seeing that we have NEVER been on snow before ??
Anything we should bring along?
Any others tips or advise for us? Any info will be much appreciated!

Hi.. We are going in November and understand that its not snow season. Can we still go up to The Remarkables and how is the road condition like?
Skrevet 24. oktober 2019
Hi, Yes you can go. Not much snow, but roads should be fine, you will like the amazing view on the way up there.

I planned to visit this place on early November 2019. Is there still snow/ iced there? Thanks in advance.
Skrevet 20. september 2019
Hi.. Is it possible to come to this place but not doing ski or skiboarding. Just to enjoy the scenery, taking picture and going to the cafe?
We are family with 2 child under 10 yo.
Do i have to buy tickets to access the place? Thanks..
Skrevet 19. september 2019
It is possible to go up there and experience the scenery without skiing. If you are staying near Queenstown, there is a shop downtown to purchase bus passes. They are reasonably priced, and there are several buses up and back throughout the day. The bus ride is almost one hour. There were definitely people up there just sight seeing, but you may need to purchase a lift ticket to go to the scenic look out point. You should just inquire at the shop that sells the bus tickets, they would know for sure. If you just want to ride the bus, and stop at the lodge, cafe, and the gift shop, then there is no additional fee for that.

What is the cost of food at the remarkables and coronet peak for teenagers coming on a school trip please?
Skrevet 5. juli 2019
I’m not really sure but the food served at the cafes were pretty reasonably priced. You may need to check their website for more clarity

Parking -
We are hiring a car for the week and plan on driving up from Queenstown.
Do we pay an entry fee to park in the ski area.
Is parking near the lifts or do we walk / take a shuttle.
Any tips for parking as close / conveniently to the left area would be appreciated
Thanks
Skrevet 10. juni 2019
You know, I would take a shuttle myself although there is a good deal of parking, reasonably close. However, skis🏂 ski boots, etc, think its easier to shuttle right to the door

We are a family of 6. We are planning to go up the Remarkables during our trip in June. Our youngest, 11 yrs, is not too keen on skiing & snowboarding but the rest are.
Is there an area where those who do not want to ski/board can play with the snow, run around etc.? (With parental supervision, of course)
Can those who do not want to ski/board go up the chair lift?(cos the people who took the chair lifts in the many videos I watched all have the skis/boards on their feet)
Is it a must to sign up for lessons? Can we just rent the equipment and then ski/board on our own?
We would like to cater to all in the family so that we can all have fun during this trip.
Any tips and suggestions will be helpful.
