This is a stunning natural beauty that is very photogenic and instagram worthy. There are many vantage points that offer great views. Definitely worth a visit.

Absolutely stunning. There’s a trail you can walk or you can drive and look at several look outs. The lake was lovely and blue. Do yourself a favour and go when not too hot and do the walk.

So, I was expecting a lovely blue. I saw a black lake. You could tell it has some earthly deposits from the volcano that makes the lake a different colour, however this time of year it seems to be very dark.
The walk around it was good and it's still brilliant to look at.
I'd like to come back and see it when it's bright blue in summer.
Highly recommend coming here while in Mt Gambier or even if passing through.

Main attraction of this town. But try to visit in summer so can really see and appreciate the real blue lake showing ink blue colour. Surrounding area is also good to explore and walk around.

The water is incredible blue!
If you come for the first time I recommend to do the tour at least once of going down with the guide to talk through the history and take the little lift down the lake.
There is also a souvenir shop

There are many viewing points from which to admire this stunning blue lake. If time does not allow for a walk around the lake, drive the road that encircles the lake and stop at the lookouts. It is worth seeing the lake from different sides, especially if the sun is shining, as this affects the blueness! The best view is from Rook Wall Lookout. There is not a lot of parking. From here, there is an underpass to a lower lookout. Or there are stairs up to a wooden sheltered lookout. If you are feeling extra fit, there are steps up to a higher lookout, although the view doesn't really justify the climb. There are informative displays at some lookouts. Interesting to read about the formation and current use of the lake. This is a must-see when in Mt Gambier.

WOW! It is amazing to see such a deep bule lake!

Hi
Is the blue lake still blue in March? Or is it better to see it in mid feb when we will be going? Also, how's the temp in Adelaide in mid February? Does it get really hot?

The blue lake will still be nice, and it will be a more vibrant blue than your average lake for sure, but it is certainly it's most impressive from November-Feb.
As for Adelaide, in Feb you can expect periods where the temperature stays above 30C for 2 weeks continuous and there will be at least 5 days in Feb that will go over 40C. We have had a couple of years where it went >45C. I live there. It is usually our heatwave month. But it is a dry heat if that is any saving grace.

Hi Wendy, as arr0w123 and others have mentioned, no you can't because it is our town water supply. Having said that if you are visiting, the 45min tour held every hour on the hour is brilliant. We have only been here 8yrs and have done this tour a few times ourselves and recommend it to any visitors. He explains how the aquifer system works here, which we found indeed fascinating. The best time to see the blue lake at it's bluest is around Nov-March as it turns dark during the cooler months which is to do with the minerals in the water and the sun with how they're reflected back (also explained on the tour)
