One day trip. Spectacular! Our highly trained Guide and excellent driver. Forest, beach, lake and local wildlife. A true paradise as the name suggests. Recommendation to sleep one night on the island!

Our 1st trip to the Island with 2x 15ft hybrids. Stayed 3 nights in Zone 2, found a great camping area, day tripped to Lake Mackenzie, checked out Eurong, pies from the bakery were yummo. Heaps of pippies along the beach, however they were few and far between further up the beach in zones 5 and up. We attempted to catch beachworms, hubby got one!! Our next stop was in Zone 5 for 9 nights once again found the perfect spot for the 2 vans. We were between the Maheno wreck and the Pinnacles. Day trip over to the western side, 21kms took just over an hour, this was midweek so very little traffic. Checked out Central Station and Lake Allman. Wasn't fussed on Orchid beach at all, the drive up there was scenic. Champagne rock pools were impressive. Cathedral beach shop/fuel was our go to for a coffee, had lunch there twice, burgers were $17 to $20 and well worth it. Thier prices for groceries were reasonable and had a wide selection. Eli Creek was just what everyone says it is, just beautiful clear fresh cold running water. The closest dump point for us a Dundubara, and there was mobile phone service there and fresh water. Had a few close encounters with the dingoes during our stay, you need to be vigilant at all times. All 4 of us carried a "stick" when out on the beach are moving around our camp site. We had timed all our travel onto and off island around the tide times, need a low tide to get around the Poyungan and Yidney rocks with the vans, there are tracks up and over both rocks, however we decided to go around the rocks. Same with getting back to the barge the last 1 1km of beach down to Hook point is only passable at low tide. Will we go back again, yes. Lastly we didn't get bogged at Inskip Point!!

Had a wonderful day on this unique island with K'gari explorers. When we were at the beautiful, a group of campers were blasting music, which destroyed the atmospheres of that pristine place. Instead it turned into a frat party. Considering the useful and important regulations to maintain and repsect the island. Regulations for noise pollution would be welcome as well.

We took the 1 day K'gari Fraser Explorer Day Tour, beginning with a 7AM hotel pickup that grouped us to the Riverheads dock to board the 8:30AM barge. It crossed the 2010 Tentative UNESCO Great Sandy Strait to land at the island’s Kingfisher Resort dock at 9:15AM. Here we walked 100m to board the specially designed 4WD MAN Bus for a 100 km tour of 1992 UNESCO Fraser Island.
Our guide, Andrew, narrated while driving the bus, first crossing the 12 mile width of the subtropical island, along a rough & narrow sand track, to the Eurong Bakery that overlooked the angry surf. After using the restrooms, he continued north on the ‘75 mile Beach’ to the ruins of the 400’ 1905 SS Maheno that ran aground here in a 1935 cyclone, further to the naked mineral tinted Pinnacle cliffs, before returning to the Eli Creek(30 min view/swim) and the Eurong K’gari Beach Resort for our 13:30 PM lunch buffet(meats, fish, salad, fruit & coffee).
At 14:15PM, we reboarded for a 50 min drive to the Central Station(logging camp) for a 20 minute walk through tall Satinay & Kauri trees with large Staghorn/Elkhorns to a clear fresh water stream with King ferns.
A 30 min drive took us to the 370 acre pure rainwater Lake McKenzie(30 min view/swim with restrooms), then a 40 min drive returning to the Kingfisher Resort dock. The 17:15PM barge arrived at Riverheads dock back on the mainland at 18:10PM, where we boarded our bus which brought us back to our hotel at 19:30.
It was a tiring full day that was organized tightly to expose us to the tall trees, flora, surf and dingoes of this wonderfully preserved sand island.

Gotta say Fraser Island is one of our most favourite places ever. Wonderful place to visit if you have a 4WD and enjoy the beach and getting back to nature. We were there first week of March. A fabulous time to visit before the Easter rush. We stayed at your wrong and got a very central forgetting around the island. There are so many hidden treasures it will blow your mind definitely a place to visit.

You can't visit the Fraser Coast and not venture onto Fraser Island. If you have a 4wd then you're able to drive yourself around otherwise book a day trip and let them show you this amazing place like I did.

I am bringing a group to Hervey Bay from 21st to 23rd August (next week). I would like to organise a sunset cruise but the don’t seem to run them this time of year. Any recommendations/suggestions?

Contact Kingfisher Bay Resort & Village on Fraser Island. They may be able to assist you as the did do Sunset Cruises in August. It is a wonderful Resort with a lot of great activities.

medical facilities if baby is sick. or is it advisable not to visit the island if my child is 1 year old and may not receive the appropriate medical attention if she is sick
Skrevet 11. mai 2019
We had a two year old with us and didn’t feel we had to worry. We did see ambulances along the beach for those that needed it. Believe the base station is at Eurong.
