As seen from the fixed wing aircraft, they were fabulous. Lots of cascading water over the falls, and many tributaries feeding into the falls from the top.

Jim Jim Falls was quite an experience…… when we read the reviews we scoffed when the walk in was described as ‘challenging’.

With a 3 and 5 year old, there was blood, sweat and tears. It was extremely difficult with small children in the heat of the day. I would not recommend. It’s definitely ok for a fit adult, but the sheer size of the rocks to climb over for a distance of 500m is a little too much for little legs. This is one for early morning if you take children in.

There is also very little to no shade in the middle of the day at the actual plunge pool (or beach area).

A suitable car for the last 6kms is recommended. Something with a little clearance. In oct there were still a few small creek crossings.

Visited here as part of a Wayoutback tour. Great fun getting there across the 4WD track. We got there very early so were the first ones and that was very special. Swimming through to the Plunge pool was really worthwhile.

The road into Jim Jim needs a 4x4.Most of the road is good until you reach the campground and go through the gate and then it become rougher. You reach the car park and get out expecting a nice easy 2km walk in.Prepare yourself. The first section is great but about 500m from the falls you will be climbing over boulders and rocks that a lot of people are not capable of doing so if you have knee issues or any fitness issues give this one a big miss.Yes its beautiful at the end but even getting into the water you will be climbing over black rocks. The track markers are somewhat hidden too so you may find yourself climbing over rocks in the wrong direction. The water was FREEZING cold so I didnt swim long and then had to get my head around making the trip back over the rocks.Never been so glad when we hit the sandy track again. Most stunning place in kakadu but hard work to get in there.

Make sure you leave earlier for the trip- takes about 2 hours to get there. The 1km walk in is over a lot of boulders/rocks. It is also a bit slippery in the Sandy parts.

The view at the end was well worth it. The swim was cold and under the falls, even colder. Carrying in a noodle as a floatie was a great idea.

We stopped at the campgrounds for a picnic lunch on the way out- great facilities again.

I arrived at Jim Jim Falls and there was a grown man there who said- "Little finger laugh at you." It was great.

One of the essentials when visiting Kakadu. Jim Jim Falls is accessed on a very corrugated road (4WD recommended but our Outback AWD made it fine). The campground 10km before the falls is really nice. Warm showers and clean toilets with lots of space. From the carpark you need to walk/rock hop most of the way to the falls and the pool. The falls weren't flowing due to a poor wet season but I can imagine they'd be spectacular. The pool below the falls was quite large and eery looking but beautiful. The water was icy cold though and we didn't stay in for very long. There's a walk to the top of the falls which has some lovely small pools - worth doing but good fitness and hiking shoes needed.

Took the rough gravel road into Jim Jim. Last 14kms soft 4WD. A couple of shallow water crossings. The walk from the car park
Was over rocks and tree roots. The first section to the viewing area was ok. After that the rocks became boulders and were more slippery. You are rewarded with a beautiful sandy beach. We were there by 8am and there were a lot of crocodile tracks in the sand.

Unfortunately it wasn't flowing when I was there this time but regardless it's still a beautiful spot.
Plenty of sand to relax and chill out.
The drive in is rather easy, yes there's some corrugation but it's not that bad if you have done off road driving.
The walk in can be tough if you're struggling with disabilities as you do need to climb over a number of big rocks.

Self drove from Cooinda.
50km dirt track which wasn’t too bad, followed by 5km 4wd only track.
The walk from the car park to the falls...was hard. We had our 10 year old with us and it was rough going. Took about an hour to get in, 45 minutes to get out.
BUT
Worth it for the absolutely phenomenal beach and plunge pool at the end, although the water was freezing.
The waterfall will only run in the wet so don’t be disappointed if it’s not flowing in the dry.

An absolutely magical spot.

Do not go if you don’t have a 4wd, or fit and agile.
