I have this thing about honey shops and guess what, I made a bee-line (excuse the pun) for the Clifford's Honey Farm.
This family run business is right at the end of a fairly rugged rural track which is worth the detour and the rutted dirt that you kick up. I find it really wonderful to see a family business like this, because honey is such a magical treat of nature.
The showroom was empty, but two lovely ladies staffed the shop with smiles and lots of helpful tips. Being that we came in from Western Australia and that we could not take any honey back home with us, for biosecurity and quarantine reasons, we still got into the tastings.
Most of their honey traces its origin back to the "mallee" tree, a species of eucalypts which grows with multiple stems that emanate out from the base of the tree. I tried the Coastal Mallee Honey first which was a light honeycomb flavour and delicious. But the next one I tasted was the Purple-Flowered Mallee. This was my winner. It had a really great toffee-like taste.
The history room downstairs was interesting, but I could not help feeling the whole space looked more like a Year 3 classroom, than a retail shop. It would have made the room infinitely more appealing to have it dressed out professionally. Trust me, I've been to many "honey shops" and you could apply many lessons from them to here.
Nonetheless, I like my time here. It was informative and fun.

Visited here after leaving the Flinders Chase NP and stopped in here to buy some local honey. It was very informative and they have taste testing of all their honeys. Very friendly staff and lots of souvenirs in their shop and downstairs in the shop is a video etc of how the bees make the honey and the process of bottling honey. Really enjoyed our visit.

Clifford’s Honey Farm is another one of those hidden treasures that pop up every now and then with excellent merchandise store with a comprehensive Bee / Honey Exhibition. The Staff were very informative especially going out of there way giving us ideas & directions to the sight to see at the eastern end of the Island.

Enjoyed the range of honey and stocked up for the trip home. The staff member on duty was not really interested which was disappointing. Highly recommend the drunken drone honey wheat pale ale and looking forward to trying the mead I bought. Worthy of a visit.

A family run business that has been on the island for some time. A wonderful range of products and bee related items. The owners are passionate about what they do without being pushy. What and how the bees do are also all explained. The ice cream is a MUST!

A small shop which is better in my mind than the other larger place near Kingscote.
Lots of variety of honey both in flavour and sizes. They seemed to only taste one honey, which may be as a result of the fire destruction.
There are also other food items form the Island and clothing and gifts.
Standouts for me - the honey wheat beer. If you like beer, do yourself a favour and get some, but strangely it's cheaper in the Sip 'n' Save shops.
The honey ice cream? Oh yes please give me more. Creamy, smooth, nice honey flavour but not a jar of honey.

Hi there,
Thank you for taking the time to write your review.
We are so glad you enjoyed your time at our shop. :)
You are correct in regard to the reason behind only one flavour available to taste. The bushfire damage is having an ongoing impact on our honey supply. We are very happy to share that we have since shifted to providing tastings for all flavours, and managing our low supply in other ways.
Thanks again,
Alana

Our tour of the farm including tastings of alcoholic and non-alcoholic wines. It was interesting to hear of the origins of the bees, and the impact of the 2020 fires on them. Plenty of the local product for sale in the gift shop. I highly recommend the honey ice-cream.
