Liffey Falls is a pretty 45 minute drive from Launceston (whether you choose to go via Deloraine or Bracknell). Good parking & toilets available at start of 45 minute 1 km walk. Slightly undulating in parts, but not overly steep at any stage. Well formed earthen path throughout (no chance of getting lost). Several good viewing platforms en route to the main falls. Particularly beautiful at present as falls are running well following recent rains.

A bit of dirt road with potholes before you get there but just go slow. The falls has toilets at the start of the walk and some picnic areas. The walk is lovely and an easy 40 minutes. It does have stairs though which are a little harder coming back up. There is a chair at the top of the stairs so feel free to have a bit of a rest after the climb up.
The falls themselves are lovely with lots of different viewing levels along the way.

We accessed via the Upper Falls carpark. An excellent walking track leads you to the falls through a wonderful forest setting: it is about a 1 km walk in (and then back out) and is well the deviation from the main road, or a day trip from your lodgings

Google maps suggests it is a short trip from the Meander Valley Hwy from a town like Westbury. Because of the roads it takes much longer. After ignoring the speed limits, as you do in this part of the world, soon you will be on an unsealed winding, mountainous, pot holed and rain channeled car suspension adventure. Also the road is so narrow in places 2 cars cannot pass. I would not recommend this if the weather is wet. On one side is a steep, potentially fatal cliff, on the other is a big ditch. The road in places is extremely steep up and down. A few times the tires skidded and this was in very dry conditions. If you come across an oncoming car it could be a bit nervy. Anyway, I powered along thinking I would be there in an hour. The Falls are well sign posted, which is just as well since there is no mobile phone coverage when you get right into it. Just take a moment to read them because you could get lost. It's not overwhelming and return to civilization is well posted. Just before you get to the well designed car park where you have to walk to the falls (45 minutes walk) there is a little bridge with a 5 car carpark. Thinking I had to walk from there I parked the car and walked 450m up the 'road'. At the summit I saw 5-6 cars parked there and cursed myself. Never mind, I saw a sign that said 'big tree' and headed off to it. Not really that big to be honest and kept following the trail through wonderful double canopy rainforest (tree ferns, very tall ash and eucalypts - sometimes a crop of fir or pines.) Birdsong was worth recording. It seems the whole mountain has subterranean waterways as you trek you hear them and see grotto's and such - reminded me a lot of south Island NZ. Well after 45 minutes and no falls and a track that I started to imagine, I turned around lest I get lost. When I got past the 'big tree' and returned to the car park I saw a big park sign under a hut showing a map and beside it, in the opposite direction I walked a sign saying "Liffey Falls 45mins" . I had gone in the complete opposite direction. That day was 33 degrees, probably hotter. Cursing myself I just walked back to the car and drove away, vowing to come back next year. By the way the drive back was not nearly as nerve wracking but you have to be very careful, some bloke in a massive 4WD almost clipped me when we met unexpectedly around a hairpin bend.

Not a great road in, you can only take a short wheelbase vehicle on what becomes a progressively rubbish dirt track with little room to pass vehicles coming the other way. Once there facilities are good but we couldn’t find potable water onsite. 1km/45min walk to very nice observation platforms. My 83 yo father had a knee replacement 6 weeks earlier and had little difficulty walking the 2km return trip with a walking stick. Wouldn’t bother unless there’s been rain as the falls obviously aren’t much if there’s little water.

Great walking trail and excellent camping. Steer clear of the bearded elderly man seems like a permanent camper.

It was a lot of fun hiking the track to Liffey Falls. Driving to get there was another story! Windy, steep & unpaved roads which didn’t seem to end. I was so relieved to finally get there. The falls are pretty and peaceful. Love the sound of constant water trickling and the sounds of bird life in the trees above.

Fabulous Falls, but rough access. Given the iconic popularity of these falls, the local council needs to do a lot of work on this long gravel road.

Put that aside, and its a Must See when visiting Tassie

Delightful falls accessed by a well made path. There are several levels of falls......we were fortunate to see a platypus within a metre of our feet at the lower falls!

I dropped here on the way from Cradle Mountain to Launceston. This was listed as a popular attraction so I assumed it would be a built up road. Passing Deloraine until the Riversdale road was fine. You would think the road would be wise enough for two cars and tarred for such an attraction. It was gravel road all the way with potholes and definitely narrow for two cars. Very small carpark. Toilets available. Around 20 minute walk each way with some uphill points. The actual waterfall is beautiful but didn't feel it was worth that sketchy drive and long walk. Drive at your own risk!
