While we did a shorten experience (out and back approx 5 mikes) the views were very nice and the trail is well marked an at mist a moderate hiking experience.

The Panorama Trail (#635), Short Loop option, is well maintained and easily navigated with the excellent signage provided by the volunteers. Suggest you first go to trackswhitemountain.org and download the outstanding trail map available. There is also one posted at the trailhead. The Short Loop option is about 4.75 miles long vice the 9.5 for the entire Panorama Trail (Long Loop). The Short Loop is accessed using the "shortcut" accessed at markers P34 or P37 depending whether you go clockwise or counter clockwise. (see photo)The Trail is somewhat rocky with small stones between P9-12. The two scenic pictures were taken near P9. In the June-August time frame, the warm temperatures could be a factor for some. You will need water and sturdy shoes. Respectfully, this is not a flip flop hike. Well worth your time, as all of the Trail systems detailed on the web site.

Good technical. Average difficulty. Had beautiful views Pretty much butchered by the forest service selling timber in the name of thinning.

All in all a great hike that I’d recommend. I’d recommend bringing lots of water in the summer. I hiked but looks good for biking too!

This close to town trail is easy to get to and really pretty. We thought that it was one of the nicest trails of the White Mountain Trail System. It meanders behind Porter Mountain and provides great views of rolling peaks and surrounding forest. It's not particularly rigorous but like many of the White Mountain trails it runs longer than the signs indicate. This trail is more interesting than many because you're not always buried in the trees. We'd definitely do it again.

Picked this based on a trail book we got at the ranger station. Contrary to all the signs, this trail, if fully completed (there is a shorter shortcut) is just 9 miles, not 9.5 We did it counterclockwise so get up to the Twin Knolls early in the hike. This is on open range land so you may encounter cattle. We ran into a mama who would not give ground which is odd. But then we saw there was a calf behind her. We simply walked off the trail until she was behind us. We did see many nice wildflowers along the way. Not a lot of elevation in the loop, maybe 700'. Nice hike if you want to stretch your legs.

This is a very nice trail, and extremely well marked! We were surprised that there was not more elevation change; when I looked at the elevation graph I didn't notice that it was in hundreds of feet, not thousands! We did the whole trail clockwise. The first part is literally an almost flat walk through the woods. Still pretty, and cool because of the shade and a bit of a breeze. There were occasionally views during the first seven miles or so. Then we came to the best part of the trail - nice elevation changes, nice breeze, and lovely views. We had about two miles of really great hiking in that area. Then back to flat. All in all, a good hike. It is long but it's not difficult - if you are looking for a challenge, this is not your hike!

Have done this hike dozens of times, never gets old. Great for mountain biking too! Over 9 miles it does offer a marked shortcut if you desire a shorter hike. In summer don't under estimate hydration needs.

I love to hike this 9.5 mile trail while up in Pinetop. It has everything, beautiful wooded areas, flat Pinyon Pine areas also some hills to climb.. On a clear day you get a great view from the top of Twin Knolls, it extends to San Francisco Peaks which are located North of Flagstaff. At one point the trail passes the foot of Porter Mountain. You might come across some cattle grazing or heading to Porter Tank where they go for water. When I hike this trail I feel at one with nature. I very seldom run into any one else on the trail, maybe because of it's length, not as many people want to hike this distance. There are alternative routes within the trail that you can take to lessen the mileage. The trails are very well marked with coded white reflective diamonds on the trees every 1/4 mile. (If you happen to need help you just have to call 911. Tell them the number on the marker and they can locate your position) .Make sure you pick up a trail map at trail head and you will have no problems. It will show shortcuts if you do not wish to do the 9.5 miles. It generally takes me just over 3 hours to hike the trail but for first timers you might want to allow 4 plus hours as I am sure you will want to stop and take in the views. Also remember when you hike in the White Mountains to check out the weather before hand as Thunder/Lightning storms can move in. Also make sure you have plenty of water. A good web site to contact is TRACKS they are the experts on trails in this area and you can download different trail maps in the area. I hope you get a chance to hike this great trail
