I bought the tour in Cusco at the office of the travel agency Terra Quechua Peru, and the truth is that it was the best tour I have ever bought, they adjust to your needs and it is so well organized that the trip is unique.
The first part of the trail is very easy as it is mostly flat, but the altitude influences a lot! I recommend walking steadily, without rushing, and without stopping too long and chewing coca leaves or smelling a liquid that makes you not feel altitude sickness. If you don't dare to walk up, there is the option of horses, but they leave you before the ascent, which is the most demanding part, and it's worth it to get there on foot, and take a good coat because sometimes hail falls.

Very nice experience to climb to 5000m but also very challenging. It is recommended to book with a travel company, I contracted Huaynas Expeditions for this trip and it was great!. About the hike, the last part it's really challenging, every step you make is so much more difficult. It's possible to take a horse for 60 soles ($18) but please note, the mule won't take you all the way to the top. you will still have to climb approx 80m of elevation to get to the viewpoint. It was a sunny day and the colors were beautiful. It was worth it!

Months ago I started working out to get in shape.
This is an amazing bucket list tour not to be missed.
We left Cusco at 3.30 am from the hotel. In retrospect, it turned out that we really did well to set off so early. After a few hours of driving, we stopped for breakfast and finally started climbing around 7am. You can reach the highest point in three stages. The first stage is easier, the second is harder, and finally the last is the hardest. Go gradually and at a slow pace. Maintain your strength throughout. according to the map approx. 3 km on the way with about 350 m of ascent, all at an altitude of 4600-4900 m, which is already very difficult.
Have a light backpack, drink and glucose with you. have room in the bag if you want to store several layers of clothing.
After all, the view is worth the trip. And it really pays to start early. We reached its highest point around 9:40 a.m., but already at that time you could see a lot of people arriving.
A coat, hat and sunglasses were needed because soon around 10:00 a strong wind started blowing.
It didn't rain, it was nice weather. We were lucky.
At 11.10 we were finally in the parking lot. It was a serious day and it was worth it.

Excellent experience with TERRA QUECHUA PERU in the mountain of colors, totally recommended the Agency always attentive to make us feel at ease ... very well organized and far exceeded my expectations. Very safe and comfortable experience.
The road is tired, the ideal is to arrive early and enjoy the road. For many it is a challenge and they go very fast, the ideal is to enjoy the scenery and the road. We climbed in 1 hour 30 min and we made several breaks for snacks, chat with the people there. If you are already there, enjoy your stay. It is recommended that this is the last stop of your visit to Cusco, so that your body gets used to the altitude.

The hike is kind of tough if you are not used to hike at 5000 m. of height, the views you get from the pass at 5200 meters of altitude are breathtaking. Vinikunka is one of the cutest mounts of South America.

We took a bus from Cusco that was about 3.5 hours ride through a winding one lane dirt road. We then got on an ATV and drove up the remaining 3,000-4,000 ft to the top. The other option I heard was a 2 hour hike. No thanks at 17,000 ft. I'm really surprised they didn't sell oxygen cans anywhere. I highly recommend taking some medication prior to reduce the altitude sickness. However once at the top, it was amazing views. But for sure, go early! I think we arrived there by 10am? There is only one point that is the photo shot you see. As we were leaving, big lines!

The elevation is tough to deal with, but the hike itself isn’t hard (if it was at lower elevation). The views are breathtaking. If you have an extra day in your trip, this is what you should go do.
