We flew into L.A on business and leisure. We stayed a few days rented a car in Santa Monica and drove through the desert to Las Vegas. Super cool adventure through the Mohave. We flew out of Vegas.

The Mohave Desert is an amazing "must see" environment with remarkable Joshua trees, other desert plants and plenty of wildlife. Unfortunately I only spent a day and a half there but can recommend short, quiet walks to see wildlife and sunrise in the desert. The Mohave covers a vast area so some research before you travel will enhance your visit. Make use of the visitor`s centre, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Remember to prepare appropriately..........water, food, clothing, footwear and eyewear to protect from wind blown sand. Enjoy !!!

Lots of colors, tons of vegetation, and wildlife. We traveled from Las Vegas - less than 2 hrs and a beautiful peaceful drive. Passed a few casinos in Primm where we stopped to eat on our way back. Interstate nearly the entire distance so driving was a breeze. Easy to follow signs with much to see. This is a must see, must do area - may take several days to so the high points. We went to the Kelso Dunes which are the singing sand dunes and a beautiful site to behold. We went prepared to climb the dunes, recommend planning ahead. Water, snacks, hat, sunscreen, face covering such as a barclava or bandana to prevent sand from getting into nose and mouth, Glasses that fit snug or a goggle type gear to keep sand from the eyes, tennis shoes or hiking boots are a must, and comfortable clothing that will allow you to move without restraint. There are numerous walk areas but NO TRUE pathsways - just start at the entrances and go to the dunes - pick your destination and walk. The sand is very loose and you will sink. The soft loose sand makes for increased strain walking. The dunes make look close to some but there is a great distance to climb, several miles actually. You will have sand in your shoes, clothes, etc. The sand is a fine texture unlike the beach. When you make it to the top of a dune you can slide down and hear the sounds that are made. Sitting in the sand you can comb your hands back and forth and make cool sounds that are beautiful. The wind does blow, nearly continuous hence the formation of dunes. The views are spectacular. If you are a camper then you will love to camp here. There are wild animals and sharp plants to beware of. We will definately take our grandsons in the near future. The tourist center is closed on Mon & Tues - it is a restored train station. Bathrooms are available at the a few locations throughout the park - they are rustic out-house style. Suggest extra clothes and shoes to change into. Highly suggest spandex workout clothing to keep out sand and allow for heat exchange. In April a jacket is needed but shorts were great. Take a backpack or fanny pack with plenty of water for the climb - we took 1 liter each and were fine however we hydrated heavily before and after the climb. Eat before, take snacks, allow plenty of time 6+ hours to enjoy, and do not forget your cameras. Alert - take a camera that seals like a water camera - we use Fujifilm XP because it is shock proof water proof and tolerates sand very well. The surround Joshua trees are remarkable. There isn't enough time see it all, even if you took a whole week. The spring flowers are so beautiful, the plants are gorgous, and the contrast of terrain is amazing.

We drove through the Mohave Desert on our way to Las Vegas. The Mohave Desert occupies over 47,000 square miles. We also visited during our trip two of the parks in the Mohave Desert, Joshua Tree by Greater Palm Springs area; as well as Red Rock Canyon by Las Vegas. Its a superb and very large desert area.

Beautiful place and great opportunity to stay in the wild next to huge sand dunes. Just take your camper or tent and stay in the desert. Great experience. Almost better than the crowded national parks around.

We stopped in the Mohave desert on our way to California, i was an awesome place to be, as for our stop it was very short, we stopped to put the top down on our camaro but the temps were a little chilly at 41, and the winds were 47-50 mph that day, i could not believe the wind gusts were that bad, i was still a beautiful place even in November!!

Driving in California, Nevada and Arizona we finally understood the term Road Trip, we saw real desert in it's vastness and every changing vistas.
The huge expanse of flat land, with distant mountains and more distant mountains beyond that was beautiful. The Joshua Trees, grasses and Cactus were amazing. I'd always imagine the cactus to be bigger and more sparse, so it is good to see things for real.
Really beautiful scenery.

When my husband suggested we take this route from Palm Springs to Vegas I was sceptical to say the least but I'm so glad I went with it. As a native of GB it is amazing to drive across such an expanse of wilderness. We saw many Joshua Trees, cactus and other foliage - the landscape does change as you drive across and it is fascinating. If you get the chance then do drive it - make sure you have petrol and water - very few places to stop.
